we are having a church wedding and told them we dont want hymms. we are getting married in the church as its my h2b's dads church so he will be marrying us. he knows we are not religious

if you really dont know the hymns or want them ask for a piece of music to be played instead

Maybe the minister who is marrying you can give you some suggestions? We're having the same problem but my Stepdad suggested discussing with our minister to see if they can help

We have picked hymns that are nice and upbeat. Also one's that we both know from when we were younger.

We picked ones we liked, had some happy memories but also ones that our guests would know so that they join in.

There is a website recommended to me by my vicar. I haven't been on it yet, but you can find hymns and listen to them. I will put the link on your wall.

We had Love Divine, All Loves Excelling, which is very appropriate and quite well known. It does depend on how many of your guests are church goers, and whether they will know them. In Wales, Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah is popular as it is sung at the rugby matches and is therefore well known. Unfortunately the English equivalent, sung at the FA cup final, is really not suitable for a wedding, it is more of a funeral hymn. You could go for Amazing Grace which is usually well known, or there are some hymns which have wedding-appropriate words to tunes such as Jerusalem or Danny Boy which people usually know. There's one called We Gather Here I think.

We will probably look to hymns that we sung at school, so hopefully they will be known by other people. If it was appropriate to use Christmas ones like Silent Night so many people would know them!!
