We spent a good couple of hours doing a first draft of the seating plan yesterday and wow, what a headache! Trying to seat exes away from each other and people who really don't get on was so much harder than I thought it would be!! I was tempted to just pick names at random and do it that way, although that could end very badly!! How did you other ladies decide on who to sit together? Xxx

We found when we thought we had done the seating plan, people pull out, or people get added, and ours changed about 5 times. Our actual physical plan that people look at when they arrive wasn't made until a few days before

Yes I think we'll wait until 2 weeks before to do the final one just in case!!! It's one of the hardest bits to do so far I've found!! Xxx

You could always have one of those signs that say something along the lines of "Today two families join as one. Pick a seat, not a side". Saves you the stress of doing a seating plan and people can sort it out for themselves on the day. Or if you wanted certain people together e.g. Your family, his family, work friends etc, you could list the names for each table but not actually decide who sits next to who and again people can organise themselves on the day. This second version worked well at my cousins wedding.

We did think of doing something like that but we could see that getting a bit messy as there are quite a few people who don't get on and we didn't want them get put together because of empty seats on tables etc. Good idea though! Xxx

Best way to do a table plan ever, easy to change without having to rewrite over and over.

We had our priorities and worked from there. My husband's aunt and uncle can't stand each other, so we worked out how to get them as far from each other as possible but equidistant from the top table to avoid one seeming more important than the other (with those two that kind of thing matters). Then we looked at who would get on and worked from there.

The sticky tabs are definitely the best and easiest way to work out a table plan! Will definitely be doing that when we start mapping ours out. We have already had a think about how we would do it - thankfully our families all get on with each other which is really lucky considering both sets of our parents are divorced. We would sit families together so people are all sat with people they are comfortable with and know best x

We've discussed who we want where and bits like that so we know the front 2 tables nearest the top one will have the children/siblings and grand parents etc then we'll work everything out closer to the date - sad thing is there is bound to be drop outs so it might fall apart on the day so i'm not worrying about it!! lol but i do love the post it option :D xx

I agree with KirstyR386. We're having a quite laid back wedding and we're having those signs and just letting people sit wherever they want.
Of course, this isn't for everyone, and if your wedding is more traditional it may not work for you, but whatever way you choose to solve the issue I wish you good luck x x x

I have to admit, I've had a rough table plan drafted up since about May/June and I don't get married til April 2015! Haha I'm a little sad that I had nothing else to do and that was the biggest thing on my mind at the time. We haven't even sent the invites out yet either, so I'm more than prepared to change a couple of people round as I can't see many people dropping out other than the older guests if they are ill near the time (as some were at the last wedding) I did find it quite easy, even with a few divorces in there!

I'm that same April then Added more people, found out some won't be able to come, and realised the kids will be in a different room bar a few doo haven completely redone it twice, and probably will again but with this method is easy.
