We are going with a lemon and lilac colour scheme For our wedding in April 2017. We were originally just going to have a purple colour scheme but thought as our wedding will take place the day after Easter Monday that we would go for lemon and lilac instead. I really love pastel colours so it is a bit of a bonus. Only problem is my mam has turned her nose up at the choice of colour saying that only flowers will work. I have seen a few ideas but not a lot. I was hoping that maybe others would be able to give me a little advice on the colours and what we could do with it. We are having a best woman at our wedding rather than best man so thought we would have bridesmaids in lilac and the best woman in lemon. What are peoples thoughts?

We are having a pretty similar colour scheme too - pale pinks and yellows. We just booked our florist and here's something we've put together! We think it looks gorgeous :) also remember, it's your day, your way! x

Your bouquets look lovely! I especially like the top one! Have you had much difficulty finding decprations etc that look nice together in your chosen colours?

Thanks! We haven't had a great deal of trouble actually - P1nterest is my friend and so is G00gle 1mages.. I just type in what I'm looking for and bam, loads of ideas :) we came up with grey suits for the boys, put yellow ties and buttonholes with yellow and pink roses for them. Put the bm's in yellow dresses but give them pink flowers! Although obvious change the pink to lilac in your case :)

I think that is a lovely colour scheme :) it would break the purple up nicely and look so pretty! My auntie had purple and yellow for her wedding and it looked amazing. She had sunflowers in the bouquets which looked so nice, although obviously they are more of a deep yellow than a pastel kind of yellow, but it did look amazing x

I'm a fellow yellow and purple.

It works brilliantly, don't worry about what your mum says. You'll find when planning your wedding that everyone has different tastes and its yours and your partners that matters.

We were originally having hunter green as a colour, when we told MIL we were changing it she told us that FIL didn't like it but she had told him not to say anything as it wasn't his wedding..... when we told her we were changing it to yellow and purple she wasn't so keen herself (in fact she kept trying to push us more towards having the pastels.... so she'd love your colour scheme lol)

    You can't please everyone.

I know Donna, my mum has tried to butt in with a lot of things regarding our wedding, she tried to get us to go to a registry office, tried to make us choose certain people for bridesmaids etc. and colours. What are you planning on doing with your colours? I was thinking of making bunting with different materials in purples and yellows and a little of green and pink to break it up. Not sure on what else though!
Flossie, haven't seen you on here for a while! I love the sunflowers idea, I think it would go nicely, is it a spring or summer flower though? Our wedding is in April.
Owlandthebutterfly, I have seen a few ideas on p1nterest but not a lot. Mostly it is just flowers that I have seen. Although, one of the images I saw did give me a colour scheme to go on which includes light grey, lavender, lilac sunshine yellow, and lemon!

Thanks for your input girlies! x

I've been off on my holidays! Got back on Friday afternoon :)

Not sure if it's spring or summer.. my auntie's wedding was in September but not sure when they first 'bloom'.. I would be tempted to say spring but I'm not sure! You could always have artificial ones if you're not overly fussed about having real flowers?

Oh did you have a nice time?!

I guess I could have artificial, I never thought about that to be honest. Would it work out cheaper to have artificial bouquets rather than real? If I can get sunflowers, I am thinking having small bouquets made out of just sunflowers for the bridesmaids, maybe one made out of just lavender for the best woman and a mixture of those and a few other flowers for mine x

Yes it was lovely thank you.. needed to get away and recharge the batteries! Apart from I came down with a cold during the first few days we were there which wasn't very good and h2b got an ear infection so he was on meds for the majority of the holiday, but apart from that it was great! It was really nice just to spend some quality time together too without the stresses of every day life!

I think it can work out cheaper but there are some very expensive artificial ones too.. just depends on the supplier I guess! I have been looking at artificial ones from a website called S1lk Bl00ms (check them out!) which I think are actually quite expensive but they look AMAZING. Not sure if they have sunflowers but might be worth a little gander :) what you have in mind sounds really lovely x

Aww bad luck about falling ill on holiday! At least you both had a lovely time though, it is nice to get away from things once in a while! Where abouts did you go?

Ohh I will have to check them out and see what they have. I was saying to h2b yesterday, by this time next year it will be about the right time for me to go dress shopping and to book everything for the wedding. It will be about a year and a half by that point! Time certainly flies! x

Our planning has kind of come to a halt at the moment, so right now it doesn't really feel like it's happening.. feels a bit surreal! We are going to the National Wedding Show next month though and then will start properly planning in the new year most probably. Need a bit of time to get back on the saving wagon after our holiday! x

Sorry I haven't replied in a while, I have been quite busy lately. Saving up is the worst part of anything Flossie but you will soon get back into it :)
Appy89, our best woman is going to be wearing a dress. We gave her the choice of being a bridesmaid or best woman and as she is my H2B's best friend and has known him longer than me she said she would be best woman but would wear a dress to show her support for me as well (her words, I love you both! Haha). As she lives in America she said she would find a dress which she likes and then show me to see my opinions on it. She will be wearing lemon and my bridesmaids will be wearing lilac, that way she will look like our best woman as opposed to another bridesmaid x

Ohh that sounds lovely Geraldine! I actually saw a few pictures of a wedding set up with those colours on p1nterest and it looked lovely. I think they were going with a peacock theme and the colours fit in really well with it. I went to a wedding fair on Sunday and got asked what my colour scheme was and when I said they said it was really unusual but lovely at the same time haha! I am going to be testing out a few decorations with the colours so hoping that it is going to work. I am thinking that instead of mixing the colours together in the decorations that I will decorate tables either in lemon or lilac. What are people's thoughts on this? x

Love the idea of a peacock theme.. I love most ideas that incorporate more than one colour. I just think it's nice to have something different and a bit of contrast. Love the idea of having flashes of colour as well just to jazz it up a bit x

Definitely Flossie, there is something that feels different and more special about have two contrasting colours. I always knew I wanted more than one colour, one of which was definitely going to be purple, for our wedding. I just didn't know which colours until I found out that our wedding was going to be the day after Easter Monday in 2017 so thought the pastels would look really nice, just didn't want all of them. But with the peacock theme there is something that seems elegant about it x

Yeah it's a really nice combination of colours.. you can do so many things with it as well what with the bouquets, centre pieces and decorations etc. Really allows you freedom in the things you choose!

We've decided on 5 different pastel colours at the mo, but I keep seeing things and think 'oooooo that's pretty' so I don't know if I'll end up changing my mind eventually. I saw a picture the other day of mocha coloured dresses with coral bouquets which looked soooo pretty, but OH prefers the pastels x

Yeah definitely. We get married mid April so its the same for us as well. Spring/summer time really suits the bright colours and the light colours. For winter and Autumn I think darker colours are more suited. I think that was another reason behind me wanting to change from different shades of purple to lilac and lemon. I think you should stick to the pastels. You would be able to get some lovely floaty bridesmaids dresses in those colours which gives them room to do a little dance in ;) x

I don't know tbh. I'd always had my heart and my mind set on full length dresses but I've seen lots of lovely short dresses which has confused me a little! The picture I took inspiration from for the pastel colours was knee length dresses and they looked so nice! Thinking short dresses also make a full-length bride's dress stand out a bit more... ? Open to either at the mo, will have to decide nearer the time I think. What about you? x

I think you are right there, I think it would make your dress stand out even more if they are short. I think I know what picture you got your inspiration from! Was it on p1nterest by any chance? :p It would even be better for them to dance in as well, surely? At the moment I am thinking long dresses for my bridesmaids. Not sure what kind of dress our best woman will be choosing as she lives in america so will be buying it there and then showing me later on to get my opinion but both my bridesmaids are quite tall so I think the longer style will suit them more. I will have to see what looks good when they try dresses on. When are you going dress shopping? I was thinking of going this time next year as I will have roughly about 18 months left before the big day so will give me plenty of time to find dresses for bridesmaids and myself and plenty of time for alterations etc. xx

I can't remember where I came across it actually.. it might have even been posted on a UK Bride Fbook post! I have added the picture into my albums if you want to have a look :) my bridesmaids all have amazing figures and have lovely legs so they would look beautiful in shorter dresses.. I think I will start looking for their dresses around the same time as mine, which will be around Easter time next year :) I have seen lots of lovely ones on bay of e as well though.

Oooooh that's exciting she has to buy her own.. wonder what sort of thing she will pick out! Will you give her an idea of what to look out for or just give her complete freedom?! x

She offered to pay for it herself so in return we will be paying for her accommodation as we have asked her to come into a foreign country for it. I have told her what colour we would like and she is happy with the colour so she said she would look out for something in lemon which she would feel comfortable in and then let us know to see what we think. I think it is easier that way as opposed to buying one here and sending it over and her not liking it or it being the wrong size and needing alterations etc. xx

Ohh thank you glitterfairy! Those photos are lovely! I love the bouquet, very suiting to a spring wedding! x
