My h2b has always wanted to go to Thailand so that is where we have decided to have our honeymoon.
It has never been somewhere that has interested me before so I don't know too much about where is nice to visit over there.
We don't want to visit anywhere that is too busy and noisy. But, I can't stand just sitting by a pool or on the beach all day so would like to visit somewhere that has things to do nearby without being too touristy.
Was just looking for some advice from anybody else who has been or will be going?

I went to Karon Beach Phuket in April! Was AMAZING, lively enough but not busy, and close enough to do a lot, we went to Phi Phi Islands, Tiger Kingdom, on an Elephant Safari and so much more, only thing is it is scorching in April lol x

We will be going mid-May. I have looked on a few travel agent websites and they don't go to many destinations there from what I've seem so might make it easier to narrow down.
Kittyharris - I read that there is some military action going on over there at the moment which has put me off a bit. Would you say that it's safe enough to visit?
That sounds nice Eileen, we wanted to go riding on the elephants and visit a temple so sounds like a good destination to go to.
The 'Military Coup' or the 'bloodless coup' as its known has actually put a stop to most of the protesting and all of the violence, they initially implemented a curfew but that has been lifted now and life just goes on as normal. Obviously the political situation may change but really that can happen anywhere as none of us have a crystal ball. What I will say is that we have been travelling around South East Asia (predominantly Thailand) for the last 7 months and it hasn't really had any impact on us at all and I think most tourists would for the most part agree. The main issue is for the Thai people as they are no longer living in a democracy which i suppose isn't great for them but like I said -that has little impact on tourists.
May is very hot, like seriously very HOT and you will probably get a bit of rain going at that time of year as it is the off season - but still plenty of sunny days.
As for activities there is so much to do...snorkelling, water sports, elephants as Ellen said (although please look into this carefully when selecting as some of the elephants are not treated well same with the tigers), there are lots of beautiful temples, waterfalls, jungle and the food is out of this world.
Phuket can be very noisy in some places so make sure you choose wisely, Kata and Karon are nice, The other option is to go to Koh Samui which also has the previously mentioned attractions - also you could hop over to Koh Tao for a day trip or longer as its very close. I think they are the two best options at that time of year as there is plenty of stuff to do if it rains. Let me know if you decide to go and where and I can give you some more specific recommendations. :)

Thanks for that information - it has really helped! Much better advice from somebody who has experienced it then judging from different websites.
It sounds lovely, i don't think we'll be looking until later in the year so I'll post on here again around the time that we are booking. I don't do too well in heat though, so hopefully some rain might break it up :)
