As the title says, when should I be getting in touch with suppliers booked a while back such as photographer, florist, photbooth, magician etc??

We confirmed with suppliers about 4- 6 weeks before as they'll need paying, a couple contacted me before I contacted them.

Yeah, I think they generally contact you first in last stages of your planning around up the 4-6 weeks before mark, as ID said. Just confirming dates, times, delivery kind of thing

I'm going to start contacting them in June, with the wedding in August. Mainly the photographer because we need to arrange the pre-wedding shoot and he might be busy with other weddings. The honeymoon has to be paid by June 9th, and the photographer, DJ and reception a month before. H2B is already in touch with the DJ discussing the play list.

I think maybe it depends on how much contact you've had with them already and how recently... We left it a year between booking our reception venue and contacting them again, by which time the management had changed and our booking had been lost.
Not trying to scare you, it's just worth bearing in mind.
But otherwise, 6 weeks is pretty good
