My partner and I are in a bit of a pickle, our chosen venue we have booked for our ceremony to be held at, doesn't have a license for the ceremony to be held outdoors. We have a large family, too many for the maximum guests allowed for inside, and need to know if some of the information I have read is correct.
Most importantly, I need to know if it's true that the ceremony can be held outdoors, without a license, as long as the register is signed inside! Does anybody know if this is correct? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I would check with your registwr, most likely to get the right answer from them rather than anyone else. You could ask your venue too but I'd follow advice from the registrar.

the venue has to hold a licence for an outdoor site in order for the ceremony to take place there , its not just the signing of the register but the people that can give you a definitive answer are your local registrars office

    Hi,

We are having an 'outdoor wedding' in a licensed bandstand - unless it rains, We originally wanted to get married in a big stately garden so did a load of research into it! lol!
In England the rules are that you have to be married in/under a registered permanent structure (i.e room, hall, bandstand) I heard of some venues that are licensed for rooms that have large doors and you can get married underneath the mantle (technically inside) to cover the registrar rules and guests can be outside, but only a couple. You have to have the ceremony (vows, declarations, register signing etc) all in one licensed room, so I wouldn't think that they'd allow you to do any of it outside/in different places i'm afraid. I'm assuming your getting married in England? The rules in Wales are similar i think, but in Scotland you can get married literally anywhere as long as a registrar will agree to come and do the ceremony for you - it sucks - we very nearly sloped off over the border just so we could do that (but I know it would have rained anyway! haha!)
Oh, also - the registrar can still refuse to do the ceremony in a licensed outdoor structure if they aren't happy with the weather on the day - too rainy/windy etc. So you have to have a backup room anyway!
    Hope this helps.
