I think that cravat vs bow-tie depends what look you're going for as Donna H said eg black tie = bow tie; 'vintage' them = bow tie; classic/traditional = cravat (just my opinion).

I'm not sure what we'll be having as h2b has decided that his suit is like my dress and so I won't know what he chooses. All I know is that it will have some cadbury purple in it!

Had this discussion with h2b tonight and he said he didn't care! So I've ordered him a cravat :D mainly because he's not going for a fancy morning suit and I want him to look different from his everyday work suits!

A lot of men wear ties everyday, bow ties are for fancy diners and balls, but how often do they get to wear cravats?! We had cravats, but like others have said, it depends on your theme.
