Ok so I am fairly stuck on what to get the attendants....

    Best Person:
Groom at her wedding (when I say this I mean her step-kids call her "dad", she wore a mans suit)
    Drinker
    Smoker
    Loves her trackies
Has more pairs of trainers than the most girly person I know has shoes!
    One of the lads

    Witness One:
    Non-Smoker
Only drinks the odd baileys or the odd cider
Plant fitter (mechanic thats always covered in oil/grease/dirt etc)
doesnt own a suit (yet)... Will never wear cufflinks etc.

    Witness Two:
Known him since my first day of primary school
means everything to me, he's like an older brother I never had, combined ex boyfriend (we are better off as friends)
we have only seen eachother once in the last 7years however, can speak as if we only spoke yesterday.
has been through everything with me - (mums cancer, brother disappearing, house moves, mums dodgy choices in men etc)
I know he drinks, but do not know his drinking habits (ie, what he prefers to drink - the subject has never come up)
lives in another country so i cant just go see him when i want anymore & visa versa
judging by photos on fb that hes tagged in, he likes hiking, water sports, dressing up as mario lol

I honestly do not know what to get these attendants as thank you gifts, they are all so different. I don't think a watch would work for all of them due to witness no.1. I don't think a hip flask would work due to witness 1 & the alcohol would not make it as far as a hip flask for our best person. I dont want to get socks (we all have our opinions, mine is that i can do better than socks). the personalised glasses are a nice idea but im weary of witness 2 taking back to switzerland without it breaking.

    Any ideas?

I'd go with personal gifts for each of them; that's what I'm doing for my bridesmaids. So, you could maybe get the best person something like a nice lighter (Z1pp0 do some nice ones for about £15), the second witness something sports related (eg could you get something he could use for hiking but that's personalised, like socks?), etc. I don't know, it's tough! Just try to think outside the box; we won't be getting ours the traditional cufflinks/hip flask as they just wouldn't use them!

Also: I had no idea that you're supposed to get the witnesses and readers gifts! Is that true?

not technically, witnesses are usually the MOH & Best man.... However, H2B couldnt decide who to have as bestman & decided on a bestman & seperate witness.

I want my friend to be witness as i cant think of a better person, he will also be coming all the way from switzerland & I havent seen him in a long long time so would really like to get him something nice for the occasion.

Normally you do get the witnesses a little something because they are also the best man & moh.

Readers? no, not normally & we wont be getting any for our reader.

    Ahh OK, that makes sense!

Our witnesses aren't our best man or MOH; it's complicated but basically OH's brother was going to be best man, but now he isn't (he won't even be in the bridal party), but we want to include him, so, he's going to be a witness. Then one of my bridesmaids (who isn't the MOH) is going to be a witness as we want all the bridesmaids to have a special role (eg the MOH will do a poem she's written after the best man's speech; one will present the rings and help get me into my dress; one will do a reading; one will be a witness). So I guess we could get OH's brother a little something?

yeh i think that would be nice, personally i feel that if they are a witness, they are part of the party, you can get married without bridesmaids, but you cant get married without an official witness to sign along side you...
