Me and fiancé have been talking about babies recently, it has always been our plan that once we got married we would try for a baby. I already have an almost 6 year old from a previous relationship, who my fiancé has taken on as his own and is a fantastic step dad to.

Anyway, more recently my fiancé has mentioned that it actually wouldn't be the end of the world if we got pregnant before the wedding (started as a joke when we first booked as we'd said we could have one well before the wedding as we'd booked 18 months in advance) he said about yes, we wouldn't get the honeymoon we planned (hoping for a nice adults only holiday as my mum will have little one... but we wouldn't expect anyone to have a baby for us.... or am I sure I'd want anyone to, I'm only just getting used to little one being away for more than one night) but that it would mean there wasn't as big a gap between little one and baby.

I'm not saying we'll def try before the wedding, but it has got me thinking and I know there are people on here who are trying before the wedding. I just wondered what are your plans? Is there a point you will stop trying (such as to make sure you aren't due to close to the wedding or so that you have time to lose baby weight before the wedding)?

We started trying nearly 3 years ago and have just been referred for ivf. Our plan was to stop trying from February to October to avoid being anymore than 6 months pregnant. We decided that we wouldn't stop at all because me being pregnant on our wedding day would make it so much more special, particularly now knowing that we've got problems on both sides.

It is however, a totally personal choice. Some people would never dream of being pregnant on their wedding day, but others (like me) would feel utterly blessed that it had happened at all. Do what's best for you! And also don't assume you'll get pregnant quickly, this is often not the case. Good luck :) xx

Oh yes don't worry, I know it could take years.... which is I suppose another reason to start thinking sooner.

Good luck with conceiving yourself Laura,

Thank you. Definitely think ahead. If you're on the pill, you could stop that to get your normal cycle back and wrap up. Just so you're ready to go after the wedding :) xx

We're already ahead of you on that...

I'd been on the injection and was planning on coming off it about a year before the wedding, but I started having problems with my vitD levels and was told I should think about coming off it, I tried the pill and it turned me into a crazy, I was going to go to the implant, but oh said to just come off everything and wrap up to give my body chance to just get back to normal

This is going to sound like your granny so I'll apologise in advance. Babies are awkward things before they're even conceived and I can say this as someone who has lost 1 then went on to have 2 healthy monsters (now 16 and 17!!). Come off contraception but give your body a break. Take all the necessary supplements (def folic acid!!) but some things can't be planned like a wedding. Enjoy each other and have some time together first without having the worry of when you should or not according to your cycle etc...give yourselves time without too much pressure cos it's time you'll never get back. Good luck xx

Thanks for the advice Rachel, you don't sound like my (or any lol) granny.

To be honest when I say try to conceive I meant more stop using contraception. I've said all along when we do want to try we'll just not use protection, at least for a while. I understand once you've been trying for a while you would want to start making sure you had the best chances possible by tracking ovulation. But I've always wondered if that sometimes puts too much stress on people

That's exactly what I meant Donna. I was lucky - I think it took just a wink from my ex and I was pregnant but def enjoy the peace while you can. I have the opposite problem now- we're both in our 40's, 4 childten between us and I would not want any more!!! I'd be 60 to get back the independence I have now! Nooooooooo xx

Donna you do what Eve your comfortable doing. I've had a complex case with trying to have babies. Had an ectopic pregnancy then fell with Connor and I nearly dies having him, I came off the pill 3 years ago and sadly it ended I an other ectopic and I was minutes from losing my life, however that hasn't put me off having more babies we had to out TTC on hold for a year whilst my womb healed but we have been active again for 14 months I'm waiting for some tests to see how my one remaining tube looks and if we need IVF, my desire to have another baby will always be there but in my situation it's very complex so after the scans etc we will decide when to put it on hold, I do not want to be a pregnant bride and I also don't want a tiny baby to look after on our wedding day. Everyone is different do that ever your comfortable with.

We're ttc baby #2. We already have a 10 month old son. But if I was to get pregnant now, I'd only be a couple of months. It depends how far gone you want to be x

Tbh it could go either way - you might fall pregnant quickly or it could take a while.

We have a 5 month old daughter now, and after being on the pill for about 17+ years, it took me 6 months to get pregnant - which tbh wasn't that long given that I was 41 (42 now).

When I got pregnant with my son, it happened almost immediately - but that was when I was 21 as my son is now 20 yrs old!!!
