Hi hope everyone is well my H2B has decided on his best man (the one I was hoping for thankfully) and an usher. Both are over the moon the be part of our day, but they are clueless as is my oh as to what their duties should be.

We are getting married in a hotel so not sure what the usher should be doing. And my understanding of the bestman is to make sure the groom is organised, hold on to the rings and say the speech he sits at top table

Usher would show people to their seats, take any gifts/cards etc and store them In The safe place but doesn't sit at top table.

am I on the right lines or way off?

We are also thinking about asking our 11 year old nephew to be an usher but not sure if having him too would be too much. Our son who will be almost 6 is our page boy.

    yeah your right.

Ive got my ushers a list of jobs for the main day (they can relax once the meal is over)

Im having a church wedding, and a vintage double decker bus to ferry guests from reception to church and back.

My ushers will be given a roll call for the bus so that no one will miss it.
They will help people to find their seats in the church and make them comfortable, giving out the button holes and explaining the order of service.

One usher will ensure that whilst everyone is seated; h2b's grand parents are seated, H2b's parents and sister.
One usher will walk Mother of the bride down the aisle as the last people to seat before the bride and my congregation.

After the wedding, they will ferry people together for the list of photographs to illivate time stood around for guests.

Further roll call on the bus (as this could be slightly different as previous list).

Have previous knowledge of the seating plan to help seat guests at their table for the reception meal after the formal receiving line.

And i think, thats it! lol

The usher prob won't be getting the bus with the guests but there will be so one with a list of who should be on the bus and a mobile number so no one misses it.

Usher will be armed with a list of photos we want done so he can round people up so not loads of hanging about.

It sounds like the usher has more to do than the best man though is this always the case?

What do you think about out nephew being an usher too?

Also page boy does he just look cute and carry the rings on a cushion to the front and hand them to best man?

    Standard groomsman/usher responsibilities

Getting the groom to the church on time
Dishing out advice and dealing with last minute jitters.
Looking good and making sure the groom looks good.
Ordering and picking up the suits for himself and the rest of the groomsmen.
Offer a pity dance with the single female attendants at the reception disco.
Act as a steward at the ceremony, welcoming people, helping them to park, giving them the order of service, helping people to their seats.
How can you be a great groomsman?

An average groomsman will do as he’s told (usually by the bride, the groom or one of the mothers) and perform his given functions with good grace. Then he’ll take his engraved whatever and forget about it.

A bad groomsman will do all of the above but act like it’s a real chore and say things like, “what did your last slave die of?” when they’re asked to help.

The excellent groomsman takes the bull by the horns on the big day and in the time running up to the ceremony. He would email/call with plenty of time in advance of the wedding day to ask how they can help in the run up.
