Morning ladies I'm in a quandary! When should we have the first dance? Before or after the hog roast which I'm hoping will be served about 8:15, bar shuts at midnight. Thanks :)

Depends on when you're having your guests arrive, say they're arriving about 7.30, I'd have first dance about 8pm, then cutting the cake, then that's just about right for the hog roast to start at 8.15 x

We've been advised to have evening guests arrive from 7:00, milling around with drinks for a bit, then first dance at 8:00 and buffet served at 9:00.

It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

We had ours after the buffet - evening do started at 7.30 buffet at 8.30 then first dance at 9 and continuous dancing til half one!

It was a buffet though so people could go back to it later in the night if they wished, I don't know if that would work for a hog roast.

We had other couples join us about halfway through the first dance, my brother and sil, parents, moh and her partner etc so there were a few people on the dancefloor and it just segued into the dancing part of the night.

Our evening guests will be arriving at 7pm. Our first dance is at 8pm, we cut the cake just before at 7:50pm and our buffet comes out at 9pm. That way it can stay out the rest of the night as that will be within the 3 hour rule about leaving food out.

We are going to cut the cake at the end of the meal and speeches, before the first dance (because it will be June and I dont want to look flushed from dancing in my cutting the cake photos!) lol But that may well just be me!

Thanks all :) evening party starts at 7 but people never arrive then so I'm thinking first dance (Jason muraz) at about 8:15 then hog roast so party can be in full swing by about 9. Xx

I had no idea how i wanted the day to flow until reading this, it's been a bit of a worry because i didn't know how long to allow for the wedding breakfast and speeches etc.
I think the plan for the day will be:

    Ceremony at Church - 1pm-2pm
Pictures and travelling to next venue - 2-3.30pm/4pm
Wedding Breakfast and Speeches - 4pm-6-6:30pm
Mingle until Evening guest arrive - 7-7:30pm
Cut cake and First Dance - 8pm
    Buffet Food - 8:30pm
    Get Messy - 8:30pm onwards

I think it'll be summat like that!

I find it quite difficult to plan how the day will flow time wise.

We are getting married at 2pm in the hotel everything under one roof.
230-430ish photos arrival drinks and canapés
430 start to sit for the meal as it's an order on the day we will do the speeches before the meal
I haven't decided when to cut the cake it will either be before the speeches or in the evening.

Our evening kicks off at 730 but the band doesn't start until 8pm when we will do our first dance, buffet I reckon will be about 9pm and dance all night long until1245am.

I'm now thinking if my guest arrive in the evening at 730pm we could cut the cake about 745pm

    :-)

We're having cake cutting in the afternoon as we're serving our cake as dessert I think but if it were evening it would have been cake cutting at 8pm,first dance at 8.30 then evening food at 8.45-9pm x

I'm planning on leaving it all to the wedding coordinator once we know what time the Church will be, we've already asked her what time to book the Church for if we get to choose ourselves. My view is she sort of knows what she's on about

Good question! Hadn't thought about it yet!!
Our band do 2x45 minute sets plus first dance so I assume it would be:
7pm guest arrival, mingle and drinks etc..
8pm cutting cake and first dances
    8:30 bbq served
    9pm band first set
    9:45 break
    10pm band send set
    10:45-1am dj and more dancing

Our evening starts at 7 so probably cut the cake about 7:45 and first dance at 8pm
