    Hi all,

I'm slowly checking things off my list and came to a halt. Is anyone else having kids at the wedding and reception? Have you thought about entertainment for them? I saw some activity books online, but I don't think it would keep them entertained for too long.

Has anyone got any other ideas?

I was just going to do some activity packs too for the breakfast, we only have a few children at the ceremony and most parents will bring something to entertain their own children too.
in the evening there will be balloons and most children will just join in the dancing and hang around the sweet cart lol

I have planned for 5 kids at our wedding the most important being our son who will be a month short of 6 years old he is also our page boy. Then we have our three nephew who are 6, 7 and 11. and my best friends girl who is also our ds' best friend she will be almost 6 too.

I am going to get a box (cardboard lunch box idea) in our colour with their names on it. and in the box im going to put a selection of small things. like a personalised activity book that has colouring in - dot to dot etc, as well as pencils that's as far as I have got but Im also thinking about putting in bubbles, a disposable camera, a small jigsaw and some other small things its really just to keep them amused during the meal. I might even put in some small figures.

How old are the kids going to be at your wedding and how many are you having? x

We have been quite honest with people and said no children at the wedding or reception, the only ones we are having are our 10 nieces and nephews! i think thats plenty anyway lol!! So for them (ages 0-11) we will be having activity books and a small toy/puzzle. I think with the all the events of the day (wedding breakfast, speeches then disco and evening buffet) they will have plenty to occupy them!

    xx

    I have about 15 under 10's too.

I'm a bit stumped to be honest as I know my nephews would take no interest in the activity books. I'm hoping like the suggestion above that the parents bring entertainment with them.

Another idea I saw was a disposable camera scavenger hunt. I.e. Sparkly shoes, bride and groom kissing etc. but this could be a catastrophe waiting to happen. 15 kids running around.

I wish I could say no kids, but I want my nieces and nephews there so I won't be a hypocrite.

    Confused???

I have moved away from the majority of my friends and I can't ask them to travel all this way without their children as it will have to be an overnight stay.

I guess some people may assume the invite is extended to them all unless you specify. I have 26 kids in total, 15 under 10.

I'm in the predicament as you @ nearlymrsfountain, I grew up in Northampton so my family are mostly there. I lived in London for 10 years so my friends are there. Then I'm now living in Luton. So everyone is coming into me, so the realistic view is the children will need to come.

i never wanted kids at ours but weve only ended up with 2, theyre 6 & 7 which is ok lol...

tbh ive had people ask me about our invites for example i invited my auntie and 2 cousins (all grown up lol) and only their 3 names were on the invite but i still got asked if my cousins bf could come, we had to draw a line somewhere and they were fine with it... but h2bs uncle is unpredictable and is double dipping with 2 women at the minute, one of which we know :/ so mil2b has said he might bring one of them and i said to her "well only his name in on the invite" she said "that wont stop him!" and i was like "well if he turns up with either hes gonna look an @r$e when she has no dinner!" mil2b said "well he might kick off on the day" h2b jumped and said "if he does ill bounce him down the stairs and out the @@@@ing door!2 so now im worrying over an uncle n0bhe@d!

Would love a bouncy castle but don't think the adults will allow the kids any time on it (we're all big kids at our wedding, even my Grandad would be on there). We're currently planning on some little activity packs and we're also going to set up a Wii in the corner and hide the games we know the adults will want to play until after most of the kids have fallen asleep.

I don't think you have to try to hard to keep them entertained - at a wedding I went to last year there were a few kids an they were happy dancing, running around and playing with baloons until they fell asleep on a chair!!

We are having family children only, at the moment the youngest of which is our neice who will be 6 at the time, and she is a bridesmaid.
I have told my friends that their children will not be invited, whether I know them or not as I do not want to have my day interrupted with screaming, misbehaving or bored children (harsh as it may sound). I'm just not much of a 'kid' person, and it also cranks up the number of guests for the day beyond what we can afford.

Each place is different. I know one place I went to didn't count them. My place are doing special kiddie meals for the kids instead of the wedding breakfast.

They are also doing half size meals for mid-teens.

Which is great as kids meals are now £5 and teens £11, which I have no issue with as paying £24 for a 4 year old is criminal.

Worth speaking to your caterers about anything they can do x

Depending on your venue, you could always see about having a 'kids area'. I work in a hotel & there has been some weddings that have used other function rooms either as a chill out room with lots of cushions & blankets for younger ones to have a sleep, or setting up a general play room, just bringing lots of their own toys for the kids to play with, or thes been "cinema/entertainment" rooms, with a tv & DVD player or games console x

We had 5 children at the wedding aged between 8months - 9yrs old and im pretty surprised how well behaved they all were!
They sat quietly through the whole church service then didn't play up through the photos, meal and speeches!!
We didn't really supply anything for children to keep them entertained in the evening but apparently all you need is a handful of helium balloons and abit of music and it'll keep them entertained for hours lol!
