I got my dress off preloved and was able to try it on beforehand, if you search locally, even on the bay, most people will let you try on first!

Other than that, do as much DIY as you can, I'm sat here with sticky fingers making my bouquet lol, the boy will kill me as I'm getting smudges all over his ipad!

Sample sales are also a good source for dresses, although if the dress is really popular chances are it won't be available or only have a small discount. Whereas preloved is a good source of a wide range of heavily discounted dresses, including very popular ones. Liking local dress shops on the Book of Face is a good way to find about their sales.
Another option are charity shops that specialize in bridal wear - a lot of their dresses are ex-sample or were only used in fashion shows.

Oxfam have bridal shops where you can go and try on as many dresses as you want. It's worth a dressing up day and you never know you might find the dress you want. I got my dress for 100 pounds on ebay as an ex sample from a uk shop and it is stunning and worth nearly 1000 new! I am having the dress altered to perfect fit by a seamstress who will come to my home but even that will come to no more than 200. All in all a bargain that I can resell if I want to after. It can be done just keep looking.
My ebay dress was located in London and available to see before purchase. I would be weary if it wasn't.
