I'd go for something elegant and not too princess or ball gown like as they'd make you look shorter
But have plenty of detailing on the dress to make it feel more bridal than bridesmaid :) x

I'm 5ft 1 ... I wanted something simple (becuase I was planning to have the dress dyed afterwards) and not to "pouffy" ... I went for chiffon ... but definitely go and try on all the options so you can see for yourself how they look and feel. I knew that Dan would have loved me to have had a lace dress, but I tried one on and I felt like I was wrapped in a doily! I also tried a princess dress on and felt like a toilet roll holder!

How about trying a 50's poofy out style dress? (Sorry if that doesn't make sense!) My mil2b wore one for her birthday last month and looked truly sensational in it and she's also 5ft nothing :) she got hers from Vivi3n of H0ll0way and was stunning.. Big skirt but still look gorgeous, any colour pretty much and makes you pretty little ladies look beautiful and slim with very long legs!! :) xx

I'm 5'2, and I've ended up with a ball gown style dress. The one thing you need to watch for is that the shop samples will be long, and they'll stand you on a box in front of the mirror, so you have to imagine the skirt being shorter.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I'm 5ft 1 and agree with Mel here. Anything lacy was a no-go for me (not overly-keen on it anyway) and the big princess dress just looked ridiculous. I went with a dress with a chiffon overlay and lots of beading detail on the top and all over the train - it really sparkled, so I still felt really special in it.
The main thing to remember, like Elinor says, is to remember that (unless you get a tea length dress) you will have to lop a whole load off the bottom - I had 7.5inches taken off the bottom of mine. My seamstress had her work cut out as I also had a 2ft train that had to stay in place LOL! She worked wonders on it and did it perfectly though.

KateD166, I have some links for you but unfortunately your profile isn't public :( I'll pop them on my wall for you.
I think a bride can go with any dress she feels comfortable in. Will you be wearing heels? I definitely suggest wearing them when you go to try on dresses, because they'll give you a better idea of how you will look on the day.
