As a few of you know i've incorporated blackboard hearts into my theme, well after noseying online etc at guestsbooks and not seeing any i like do you think if i had decent sized slate hearts 1 personalised/engraved and filled between them both with plain white heart shaped paper all connected by the top ribbon it would work as a guest book? is slate heavy? x

Slate can be very heavy and can scratch easy.... Personally I wouldn't xxx
Ill marry my hero

I'd perhaps add slate at a later date, you run the risk of it getting damaged or even breaking....just put something temporary on that you can easily change after the wedding
Weight would be dependent on how thick your slate is, the thinner it is though the easier it will break.... Might just be better to get something slate effect, especially if you want to have it out a lot to look at.....

Yeah i was thinking it would look nice after on my unit as a showpiece/ornament kind of thing,so wouldn't worry about the weight as such then, just been looking around and i think ill get the heart paper sorted with some embossed paper for the personalisation for the temporary cover and maybe have the slate or what ever i can find, to 1 side of the guest book so still on show with the engraving, just an idea still though, who knows i may just decide to go with something easier lol X

You could have all of your guests write in a normal guest book and then after the wedding get a big sheet of slate engraved with all the messages :-) I've seen plenty of slate plaques on the bay and I'm sure you could ask for a customised size, the writing doesnt have to be big to be legible so they should all fit on :-) would be awesome ! You could then get a nice stand (some come with stands) to go on your mantle piece/shelves :-) xxx

Hmm personally the way your thinking I don't think it would work! BUT saying that yo could still use slate but instead of lots of little ones you could get an oversized heart or even just a giant rectangle a few white pens and get your guests to sign that and then maybe use as a piece of art or even a chopping board? Think ive seen something similar so will try to find a pic tonight when the kids are in bed!

Ok not what I was on about but what about these ideas.........
How about little slate pieces that your guests write on then you put in a big vase and display in your home for you both to read as and when you want
slate 1.jpg
Or you could get an actual book so people are writing on paper but you have slate covers
slate 2.jpg
Or have slate name tags on each persons place setting and give them each a pen so they can write on the other side a message to you both which they then leave in a little basket somewhere
slate 3.jpg
This could be used as a guest book so everyone writes on it or you could get a different shape

Slate is so heavy! and chips :( This may be not what you want at all, but what about making a book with slate covers as previously thought and then using chalkboard paper with white pens to make that vintage look complete? You could even use a tipex pen which would stop it coming off. Actually instead of chalkboard paper you could even just use black paper.
I think im over engineering this idea. i'll think again and if i have anything new i'll come back lol
