We are not that traditional and have decided not to have speeches
H2B is not that confident, Best man has surprised me by saying he is really worried about doing one
Due to this we said how about we dont have them?

So I told my Dad and it did not go down well at all
He was very rude and said I cannot deny him that as its his only chance to do one and he has never heard anything so ridiculous in all his life! A wedding with no speeches!

We had an argument about this as I feel he is not respecting what we want on the day

There is no way I can stop him making a speech, I just have to hope he is not going to ruin it all
I am the only person to have contact with my dad, he is divorced from my mum and my older sister has had nothing to do with him for over 15yrs!

ANYWAY....I have been actually thinking, sod it, I may do one myself!
I have no idea what to say though!

Are any other brides doing one? If so what sort of thing are you saying?

    THANKS xx

I plan to do one in place of h2b, altbough we may have best man and father of bride speeches yet, but could just end up being me lol!

No idea what id say yet, but doesnt the groom have to thank people for coming and say how happy he is to be married to the bride? Maybe just something along those lines. Id you wanted you could always quote a nice line from your favorite movie/song/poem. Its up to you really.

    I'm with KelBel!

I'm not and in our situation it wouldn't be right or appropriate. I think the Best Man ALWAYS should (only my opinion!) other wise he is not a man! He's there to support the groom and talk about him fondly and humoursly to intorduce the couple to guests who may not know him so well, and tell the story in summary of you both!

And your groom is meant to be letting you know publicly, other than standard vows, how much you mean to him and how beautfiul you look in his own words and show you off!

I understand that fully but I hate the thought of people feeling so uncomfortable with something it actually gives them sleepless nights and makes them feel ill!

That is not enjoyable nor fair if I were to insist they made a speech

See in my opinion thats rather sexist and stereotypical! Saying that a bestman or any man who cannot or is not good a speaking in public is not a man! And saying hes there to tell the family / friends of bride who don't know him well , how nice he us etc! What about the brides family who don 't know the groom?

At my sister In laws wedding last year her H2B had a short speech then his best man doe a really long speech and embarrassed him Lool then The Bride herself was pressured into doing a speech she wasn't planning on doing one but she done a small thank you speech and mentioned her father who passed away in 2010 and how she wished he could of walked her down the aisle and had the father daughter dance and wished he cold e there on her special day everyone had a tear in their eye It was beautiful
I may do a speech maybe I will come up with one so if I'm forced to do one on the spot then I have something pre prepared =D
I think H2B will be a nervous wreck I hope he does a speech and he talks loud and doesn't mumble my H2B shy and doesn't like being centre of attention So Shall See How It Goes =D <3 X

Although we aren't traditional, I won't be making a speech. I think my H2B can cover all the thank you's etc

Yep, I'm doing one in place of a FOB.
Yes, my dad will be there but he's not giving me away or sitting on top table.
Besides, why should it be just the fellas that get to have their say?

My OH is so shy he is so shy he doesn't even want the whole celebration after he wanted to go abroad but he's so fair skinned he'd burn really bad and we'd have a awful time so we arnt having speeches
I wouldn't let my dad do one as he's only coming because he's my dad we arnt particularly close
My OH isn't having a best man so that's another speech gone n I don't want his dad to do one it would be awful lol
So we're just not having any we'll stand and thank everyone for coming but that's it lol x

I'm not doing one, I'd rather enjoy the day without worrying about a speech. Anyway the father of the bride is a retired Methodist minister, the groom has a drama background and is training as an Anglican lay preacher, and the best man is a travelling salesman, so there are going to be three excellent speakers. I did go to one where both the bride and groom did a speech, and the bride did the thank yous while the groom went running around with the gifts. The bride did a wonderful speech but the groom's was embarrassingly bad, especially after his two best men did a great one together. I would certainly think that if the bride is a better and more confident public speaker than the groom it's perfectly reasonable for the bride to speak. Perhaps the chief bridesmaid or groom's father could speak in place of the best man.

I'm nervous enough about the ceremony as I have been persuaded by h2b to write our own vows, I don't know if I could cope with a speech on top of that. My MOH said she would like to make one though, she said if there are to be stories about h2b there should be some about me too hahaha

We are having our speeches before the food though as best man said he will be too nervous to eat otherwise lol
