Wedding Forum - Changing your name ?...

How many of you are not changing your name after getting married, at first i was really excited about becoming mrs hands but i have had some doubts my current last name is Kwidzinski but i was born Leeson ! I got it changed when i was 16 to my mothers maiden name as my father is a total deadbeat and ever since i was known at drs, school and even on my passport just mum thought it should be my choice to change it. And feel sad that there will be no more kwidzinski's as my mum only has 1 brother an he had 2 girls! And i will have not even been a kwidzinski for 10 years when i get married!

I feel sad that my surname will change, but mainly because my H2B's name is a bit of a challenge to keep right in my head when spelling over tthe phone to pay the bills :)

I'm changing my name definitely! I'd hate for us to be different! His last name is officially East-Lipscomb but he just uses East cos the Lipscomb is his Dad's name and he's not around. Originally he just wanted me to take the name East so I wasn't connected to his Dad, but I told him if he's staying as East-Lipscomb that's what I'm having!!!

I do want to change but i don't want to lose my old one. Especially seeming as our daughter has his name and its so annoying when i go to baby groups or what not and our names are in totaly different places due to being organised alphabeticaly by last name while all the others is mum and baby together

Im changing names but like you I am the last sister and indeed the last Owen in the line. To make matters worse my phd is in my maiden name but that will just carry on with me! I will be Dr Wyatt soon enough! Although I will be Mrs wyatt on my wedding day!

I'm kinda changing my name as H2B...

I have a very distinct surname ...k**le*jn0*w and h2b's is p*e*n**n*eck (altered to help not come up in search engines!). Due to us both wanting to keep our names we are double barreling. I have heard the easiest way to do this is for the groom to change his surname by deed-poll a short while before the marriage and then just take his name on the day!

The reason being I want to keep my surname for work as I have a reasonably good reputation and with a distinct surname, I'd like to keep that... he (and I!) want to have the same surname so that when we have a family we have a unifying name. He wants to keep his there too. Unfortunately, I can't have a different work name to my legal name as our HR system is all linked up with our security clearance which we both have to hold so I have to decide! H2B is being very accommodating.

He even let me put my surname first... so we will be the K-Ps ...Nuts! hahaha!

Fortunately for me my signature doesn't use my surname, I think I made a conscious decision when I was 11 and opened up my first current account that I didn't want my surname in it in case I got married and had to change it! Hahaha!

It means we both have to apply for new passports but because we both need one for work, work will pay for them thankfully!

Love to know how others are doing this!

Definitely changing mine, I like the tradition of it and I want us to have the same name.

My passport runs out next week so I'm not replacing it cos I'd be paying for a passport that I won't use (not going abroad until honeymoon next year anyway) so it seems a waste of money to then have to pay for another in my new name. I will just apply for it 3 months before the wedding and have it post dated. It will be odd having a legal document in my new name before that's actually my name

I'm taking his for most things, but keeping my maiden name professionally. I think I'll also be using the title 'Ms' rather than 'Mrs' until I get my doctorate when I'll use Dr.

I didnt have any problems taking his name. My previous surname was my mums ex husbands, and my name prior to that was mums maiden name. Didnt particularly like either of the names so a change was as good as the rest! Plus I would want our kids to have the same name as us xx

I've always liked my surname (Creighton) because it's different but my heart is set on the idea of being a Mrs Buckley. It's tradition, I prefer to have his name and the kids will have his surname too.

Cannot wait to change my surname to MrsDeaton Smith is so common now days and My Brother will carry the name on no problem H2Bs surname I've never heard of before I met him and I Like It cannot wait to be the next Mrs Deaton

I will be changing my surname as I have a little brother and cousins to carry on our family name and my h2b is the only one who can carry his surname on. My signature with my current name is ridiculously bad and I know my new ones going to be even worse.. I'm rubbish at signing!! :P

I wasn't keen on taking my husband name at first, love my family name. & kept saying Mrs cantle is his mum lol but it was something he wanted me to do and after four years being engaged I got my head around it, and about 6 or so months before our wedding the thought would make me smile. I think it's a nice & kind of romance!!!

I'm proud to be taking my fiance's name - We will be one and be equal. Also, when the sprogs come along, it's nice to all be the same. We want our marriage to be on equal grounds and not have arguments. I'm happy to be changing my name, I love my in-law's to be and couldn't ask for a nicer family to be marrying into so couldn't be more thrilled they want me as a Rodgers!! Also, I have a lovely Mum-in-law to be so that's not an issue... We call ourselves Mrs. Rodgers when we are alone anyway and it's nice to imagine :) xx

Kwidzinski-Hands sounds Cool Its has a ring to it double barrell it it may be hard to say or spell but you did and this way you keep your name and take your husbands surname and its nice to all be the same get your H2B to change his name by deed poll too so your name is exactly the same fair on the pair of you and your lil ones can have the same name Have a talk with your H2B tonight about it =D

Also on most standard forms Kwidzinski fairly often does not fit! So do not wish to lengthen it!

my hubbys surname is double barrelled and I couldn't wait to get rid of my previous married name but having a double barrelled name can be a right pain when giving your name for anything I still get called either Randall or just Kattner never the 2 together only time I make a fuss about it is was when I was selling my house and then I used to correct the estate agent each time cos he was a waste of breath lol xxxx

Mrs cross is not that bad, i've had teachers called mr payne, miss pratt, miss sass, mrs short amongst others

Chris Cross, love it!! I'm excited to be a Ballantyne, although a lot of people joke (normally car insurance co's etc) with my OH and say 'oh are you related to Duncan'... NO that's Bannatyne! -we are also scottish which makes the 'connection' easier for people

I changes mine and received my passport today with my new name!!!!!!
Just in time for our delayed Honeymoon next month!!!
