Hi, can anyone help with this, I'm confused!

We're getting married at Sandhurst rather than our parish church. I have paper work to apply for a special license. This says that we need to sign an affidavit. The local vicar just phoned to talk about us getting permission to marry outside our parish and he said we don't need this, we just need our bands read.

Is anyone else marrying at a church outside their parrish? If so, what did you have to do? Any help gratefully received! xx

We're marrying in a church outside our parish but I lived in the parish for two years when I was young so just need to have the banns read in our local church and the church we are marrying in. A friend of mine is also getting married outside of her parish but has no qualifying connection with the church so has to sign an affidavit and apply for a licence.

You need to establish a connection with the church if you don't already have one. If you or your parents have attended in the past, or if your parents married there, that counts, and there are some other things I think. You can also attend worship regularly for at least six months. The banns have to be read in the church that you are marrying in and in your local parish church. If you and your fiance live in different parishes, it needs to be done in his parish church as well as yours. The vicar will deal with any paperwork that is necessary. Neither of us live in the parish that we're marrying in, but the church is H2B's regular place of worship. We just have to get our banns read in my parish and his and the church that we are marrying in.

We don't have a connection in the CofE terms, but its special circumstances because its a military chapel. We've been given a form to fill in to send off for a special license, but I'm concerned that the vicar here doesn't know anything about it. Apparently he is the one that has to give us permission and sign the affidavit. He told me he wouldn't know where to start with it! I'm going to try speaking to the chapel again to clarify what other couples do then go back to our local vicar.

Sorry haven't read the above, so not sure if I am repeating info, but we are getting married outside our parish and you don't need that license! We had to go to our parish church and tell them that we were getting married in a different parish, filled out some forms paid them £34 and they arranged for our banns to be read. When that has been done they will give you a certificate of the banns and the place your marrying must have this legally. The place you are marrying will also read your banns, but it's up to them what kind of connection you need with them. We aren't from the area so we don't have any family in the parish we are marrying in and never lived there, so we have to go to church twice a month for at least 6 months before the wedding.

    Hope this helps. X

Hi, my OH and I are getting married outside our parish and we have no qualifying connection, the only option we have was to attend church regularly for at least 6 months.
