Our Venue cant do the date we wanted for August 2011 due to it being an old building and its open to the public for a whole month (wedding season they are obviously mad), so we have changed our date to March 2012, I have not put our depoist down yet, does anyone have any tips for negotiating the price because were 1. Not getting married in wedding season & 2. we've had to change the date we wanted ?
Any tips would be appciated :) xx

I agree just say to them 'look it shows how much we want our wedding at your venue as we've changed our date as you couldnt do our original one' Is there any offer you can make me on the price because of this? x

ok im a bit of a haggler! so id say such a place can do it for this but id prefer to have it here so can u match their quote...also due to the fact we cannot go ahead with the arranged date and i am deeply annoyed i am hoping that you will coopereate with me and throw in a dj etc (or whatever) for free. Also it would be in your interests to do so as my sister bla bla bla is going to get married here as well in two years.....lol x

In the name of recycling, rather than start a new topic have found this one (do I get a brownie point Nic :-P)
Our venue wants a £700 deposit for a wedding next September, is that normal?
I've asked if we can go and view it on 21st March, whoop whoop

Yay!!lol my venue wants £500 deposit.
Princess...Id lay it on really thick about how much the 1st date meant to you ie its the anniversary of when you met blah blah, and all the other things that have had to be changed because of them ie the car you wanted is fully booked on the day theyv moved you to,and now have to give up your dream car coz of them blah blah!! Im sure thayll bend over backwards, and if not threaten to take your custom elsewhere! Theyd rather knock some off than loose the thousands for your wedding!x

My venue wanted £500 deposit but I know that Lemondrop's venue originally wanted £1000. xx
Had to edit this lol. forgot what the original discussion was about.
All I can say is, you don't ask you don't get so no harm in trying
P.S... I am trying for the world record in cliches in one post, lol. xx
I can't believe we've actually done it

Just wondering but how much r most venues not just deposit but the hole thing I want a hotel n the hole thing there I'm new 2 all this n can working it all out iv got a 6000 budget 4 it all but I'm really ott about things n by what iv been looking at looks like iv got a small budget ( seems a lot of money to me) x

W e found a hotel to have everything in but the amount of guests we wanted it worked out to be 1.5k over budget :-( our whole budget is 6k and we worked out that for the venue, service, meal etc we were willing to pay half our budget for it. So basically we worked out ways to cut the costs down, (HAVING IT ON A SUNDAY, OUT OF SEASON WITH A 2 COURSE MEAL AND OUR WEDDING CAKE AS DESSERT, WITH BACON ROLLS FOR THE RECEPTION) told the venue what we wanted and how much we had for it all and asked what they could do for us? Not only can they do it but its £200 under lol
oh this is for 60 day and 100 evening guests!
It really depends what sort of venue you want babe to how much you spend on it???

Try the 'Its just what we want etc however its a little over what we can afford. Is there anything you can do to bring the price down a little within our range?'
Sometimes they would rather lose £500 profit and have a guaranteed sale than have nothing at all. It is well worth a try to see what they can do for you. If you are really nice to them walking around on the viewing they are usually more willing to come down a little for you.
