I'm not entirely sure but I think Groomsmen is just an American term? I think it's the same as Ushers xx

I had the same discussion on here not so long away lol I found this online that might help you :)

    What’s an Usher?

No, not the R&B singer Usher – but wedding ushers! They’re the first smiling face your guests will see. Ushers help greet guests, distribute programs, and escort people to their seats. They may also help prepare the ceremony location, such as arranging chairs or testing the sound system, or any of those other essential last minute tasks that you really don’t need to be doing in your wedding gown

What’s the Difference Between Groomsmen and Ushers?

At some weddings, there might not be any difference between the two. But when differentiated, the groomsmen are typically people who have a closer relationship to the couple than the ushers have. Ushers are sometimes not included in pre-wedding events (such as the bachelor party) and may be dressed differently than the groomsmen. Both ushers and groomsmen should be given boutonnieres to help guests identify them.

My OH doesn't know the difference between best man and ushers lol! He keeps accidentally referring to them all as best men, because they are all his closest mates! Have to keep telling him there's a difference so he doesn't accidentally say it to one of them, and them get the wrong idea and end up hurt - So if I showed him this thread his head would explode!!!

a groomsman is there to back up any of the other members of the wedding party, So if the usher is struggling he will step in and help, if the best man is stressed he is there to calm him down he's just a wingman as such
