We're getting married in June and we want to book a honeymoon after Christmas as we both need to book the time off work. We don't have much money so we want somewhere cheap but we have no idea where we want to go so we don't know where to start looking. Anyone know anywhere that's good and cheap in June time? Thanks xxx

You didn't say if you wanted to stay in the UK or go abroad. You also didn't say how long you want to go for.

We would like to go abroad, preferably somewhere warm and beach-y. We were thinking a week but we don't mind too much xxx

Croatia, Morocco, Egypt (Sharm or Hurghada - Hurghada is nicer in my opinion), Cyprus, any of the Greek Islands as they are beautiful (although with additional transport for boats between islands, it could work out a bit more expensive), Faro in Portugal.

Had our dream perfect honeymoon in Hawaii!
You should be able to get a good deal at that time of year as it's not the school holidays. We went to Lanzarote in April and got a week all inclusive for £700. It's gorgeous there but if you're looking for sun and beach, the canaries has the weather all year round.
Malta is also good for sun all year round (and good deals that time of year) - but the beaches tend to be flat rock as opposed to sand (still good to sunbathe but quite a travel across the island for a decent sandy beach).
CommentAuthorLinzi-jo
I would say the canaries or the greek islands hun. Cyprus is also quite nice that time of year xxx

what you could do is book time off work then wait to see what comes up last minute ..... mr lala and i did that once and got a 2 week holiday at a 5* resort in Kenya for £565 each ...oh and it was all inclusive
What about Turkey, that is cheap and it'sn cheap when you get out there. It cost us £500 for two for two weeks last time we went. I would highly recommend Kusadasi but I have heard Olu Deniz is really nice too.
CommentAuthorbeanies girl
Weather wise you are pretty much ok no matter where you go. Canaries and cyprus are ok but tend to be more expensive. Turkey is always a winner for the weather and for your budget. I would most deffinately book your time off work then look for a last minute bargin. The thing is that all holiday companies are buying less hotel rooms and flights which means they have less to sell onto the customer. Therefore, holiday prices are through the roof as they have to increase their profit margins somewhere. By leaving it until last minute tjey would much prefer to sell left over allocation at a heavily discounted price than have empty seats and beds.
(i work in the travel industry for a large well known tour operator)
I am doing the same hun and i getarried in june too.
Good luck

Tunisia is very cheap. My nan and Uncle go every year and meet up with friends out there and they pay around £1000 between them for 2 weeks and thats All Inclusive aswel.
Last minute and managers deals are always good aswel. We always do managers deals when we go on holiday apart from our honeymoon but thats cause we knew what we wanted x
Just had a bit of a look on T Cook and obviously i dont knwo where you would fly from but the main places that are comin up for less then £500pp are places like Turkey (can reccomend), Tunisia, Majorca, Benidorm (can recommed), Lanzerote, Portugal, Cofu, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Egypt, Menorca, etc. And those where all for 2 weeks, all inclusive so there is loads of choice. There was even an adult only one in Tunisa for 2 weeks all inclusive and that was under £500 too. Il put the name of the hotel on your wall. x

we are going to italy. flights on easy jet are around £100 each and we booked our hotel via ********** so we dont pay till we get there and that was a bargain at £500 for the week. we are doing a honeymoon fund as a gift list so it isnt really going to cost us anything which is a good idea if money is tight so all you would need are your flights before you go :-)xx

What about Bulgaria? We went last June, the weather was fabulous and it was really cheap. We booked ours 8 months in advance and it was £700 for both of us for 2 weeks but other people there had booked 10 days in advance and had got the same holiday for £99 per person!!! Our most expensive night out was £28 and that included a 3 course meal each and about 8 vodka and mixers each!! If you waited until last minute to book it then you could easily have a very nice holiday in Bulgaria within your budget

CommentAuthorNEDebz
Also with regards to time off, you could look at places you would like to visit, do a pretend booking so you can investigate what dates the flights are and then book your holidays around that

We've just been to Tunisia for 11 days all inclusive.. It cost us £900. It was amazing.. Honestly, such a beautiful place & everything is SO cheap over there. We did all sorts, quad biking, jet skiing, boat trips, water parks.. We spent less than £200 all holiday. Well recommended. We're going to Lanzarote for our honeymoon in March/April, right in the school holidays though so that cost us £1200 for a week! But you should get a cheap deal in places like Tunisia, Majorca, Turkey, Bulgaria in June time. Xx
CommentAuthorbarbie86
Re booking last minute: I personally have never found very good deals last-minute. I travel in June every year, and always track the prices, and find the best times to book are 12 months in advance, or just after Christmas. This is particularly the case with budget airlines as they have limited numbers of the cheaper seats, and prices continue to rise the longer you leave it; eg I've been to Spain twice this year, and booked about 2-4 weeks before on each trip. Both times, we delayed about a week between originally looking and actually booking, and both times, the price went up.
As far as where to go goes, most places will be warm/hot that time of year: look at Spain (very cheap; a week in June will set you back maybe £250pp self catered; food and drink deals off-season are also good), the Canaries (more expensive due to flights), Italy (very cheap flights, though can be more expensive than Spain to eat out), Egypt (can get some great all inclusive deals), Morocco (accommodation starts at £20 per room per night at a riad; flights start at £200 with BA), and Turkey (again, can get some good all inclusive deals; or, if you go B&B (my preference in Turkey) eating out is REALLY cheap)

Thanks for all your help :) We would much rather book in advance so we can get the right time off work. I've noticed a few places that keep coming up like Spain and Tunisia so will probably look into those. Barbie86, thanks for your post :) one of my problems is that I don't know how cheap/expensive places will be once we get there so your post was helpful. Does anyone have any ideas about whether we should look at all-inclusive or self-catered? As you can tell, I haven't been on many holidays lol xxx

Re all inclusive vs self-catered: there are pros and cons to each. I personally will not go all inc anywhere bar Mexico/the Dom Rep/etc as I find the standard of all incs elsewhere not that great; most limit you to having all meals in one restaurant, and drinks and food are often not great quality. We went all inc in Turkey once, and ended up eating out every night as the food was so bad (and that was a 5* with good reviews); the only thing we ate at the hotel was pizza as a snack mid-afternoon. I also really enjoy my food, and for us, dining is part of being on holiday; so eating at the same restaurant every night just does not appeal. Going self-catered gives us flexibility, and I find places like Europe and Turkey so cheap to eat out that cost isn't an issue. Typically, we will get a self-catered apartment with a kitchen area, and will buy fresh bread daily, plus a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, and pates, as well as fruit, plus drinks, into the apartment for breakfast and lunch and pre-dinner drinks. We then have all our evening meals out; you can get a 3 course set meal in Spain and Turkey for around £10 pp, so it's very cheap.
On the other hand, some destinations, like Egypt, are more suited to going all inc; so it can depend on where you decide to go. Also, a lot of people find that going all inc makes it easier to budget (I tend to disagree; when I budget I allow a generous amount for food and drink per day, and add this on to the cost of flights, transfers and accommodation), and they know exactly where they are. Also, some people aren't so bothered about food and eating out, so again, wouldn't be bothered about less than great food, or eating the same things every night. It's very personal.

We're both quite into our food and love dining out but we have to choose the budget friendly option as we just don't have the spare money. If we could find somewhere that's cheap to dine out, that would be perfect.

We went to Tunisia July this year and absoutly loved it.... was about £500 each for a week all inclusive and our hotel was perfect.... i would 100% recomended the hotel so if you want more info then let me know. The hotel itself is on the beach, lovely rooms, pool and 24/7 all inclusive, food was amazing with main buffett restuarant and then 3 la carte restaurants which was awesome. H2B birthday while we were there and treated us like royalty for the day so would look after honeymooners and we hardly spent a penny as everything so cheap. It was also a TC holiday and part of their Holidays with Style range so first to be transferred and food on the plane so well looked after xxx

We found our Tunisia holiday online and booked online and used cashback website too so got some money back, travel agents couldnt do it any cheaper. For our honeymoon, 3 major travel agents all had same prices so i went it and haggled on extras like airport parking, meals, etc and booked with the one that offered the best perks. Just popping hotel details on your wall. I seriously recommded it too and we loved every minute of it, even considered returning for our honeymoon but decided to try somewhere else xxxx

Booking online is usually cheaper but if you print off the deal and rake it to travel agents they will try to price match. I agree with Barbie that Jan is the best time to book x

On the all inclusive/self catering debate - I'd definitely go ai, especially if you're on a budget. We always tend to book all inclusive but take enough spending money so we can eat out at restaurants some days as well, just for a change. But if you've got limited funds, at least with all inclusive you have the peace of mind that your food/drink is already paid for, even if you run out of money.
A good tip is to check out tripadvisor reviews once you've picked a hotel - and make sure you read quite a few reviews to get the overall picture. When we were in Lanzarote our hotel was great for food (ai) but further down near the harbour there were loads of restaurants and they were very reasonable as well, so at least we had a choice.
When we were in Malta for our honeymoon though, we were lucky to get a hotel with good food as prices in restaurants were quite expensive.
CommentAuthorTori
If you are going ai double check the location sometimes ai resorts can be quite far out of resort x
CommentAuthorbarbie86
I've yet to find great food at an AI; and I've stayed at some top resorts. You can find decent food AI; but not great IMO and IME. I particularly find that to be the case in Europe, where options are limited (when we've been to Mexico and the DR for instance we've had a choice of at least 6 a la carte restaurants, with no reservations required, which we can use unlimited times, luxury food items like smoked salmon included, top-shelf liquor like Grey Goose included, etc; I've yet to find similar in Europe).
I agree it makes it easier to budget; but I still think you can budget going non-AI, with enough research, and you will get a better standard of food.
The only time I'd go AI short-mid-haul would be if there were few dining-out options around (eg in the Red Sea in Egypt), or if the difference between AI and self-catering was very small (as then it would be useful for soft-drinks, which can add up if it's hot)
CommentAuthormym72
You can get some very decent AI places barbie - it's a shame you haven't found any, in your experience. Like I said earlier, it's always a good idea to read reviews for ANYWHERE that you go, so you know what you're getting. But I suppose really it's own personal opinion with regards to good restaurants and decent food etc.
CommentAuthorLinzi-jo
We have always gone all inclusive and never been disapointed in it - and these have all been in Europe. Personally I think if you are on a budget it is the best option. Even if you eat out every night you still get your monies worth in breakfast, lunch, drinks, and snacks so personally I would always go all inclusive. But its all down to personal taste. I also agree with mym about looking up reviews first xxx

You should be able to get a good honeymoon in Europe or somewhere like Egypt hun for £1k.
Keep a look out in the weekend newspapers for adverts for special offer holidays (normally the T£l£gr@ph or T!m£s at the weekend have good travel sections).
Croatia always looks nice (not been but know a couple who went on honeymoon), not sure how much it would be but I'd definitely check out the travel pull outs in newspapers at the weekend xxx
