can you still get married in a church if you've previously been married ? does it depend on the priest ? or is it a def NO NO ...?!!

Im getting married in a church (its a c of e church) and its my 2nd time round as long as you have your divorce papers to show and there is no chance of you getting back together with your first husband i don't think there is a problem...

Catholic churches often won't let you if you've been married in a Catholic church previously, but they're ok if it was a civil wedding. C of E are different again but as people have said, you need to ask!

yeh! that's true, if l had been married in church of england or even church of scotland!! first time around then it would not have been an issue, but as l was married in the roman catholic faith then it's a no no!!!, l was a bit p..... when the priest said that, as strangely enough the marriage would not have been recognised in the eye's of the lord!! wierd as they bring us up to believe god has eye's everywhere, used to scare the poop out of me when l was a child lol xx why won't they change???
pope comeing to scotland on the day l get married to xx

ok brilliant thankyou all for your knowledge ... looks a bit more hopeful now :)

my other option was to have country house civil service etc ... which is quite appealing but all the really romantic, lush places seem to be soooo expensive
so my search is now on again inclusive of churches lol ... wish me luck

    xx

I am in the process of trying to get married in the Catholic Church, it is my second marriage, my first was in a Registrars office and ended in divorce, at the present time I am having meetings with a representative from the Catholic Diocese Marriage Tribunial, we have to have at least six hours meetings, we are filling in answers to questions, then this will be presented to the Tribunial, when we will receive an answer as to whether or not we can get married in their Church or not. We started off my seeing the Priest at the Catholic Church and he put in an application, he did state that as we only got married in a Registrars Office, the Catholic faith, did not necessarily recognise this as a legal marriage, so it may be ok, but if it had been in a church the first time round it may have been more complicated. See the Priest and see what advice he offers you, ours was really nice and really friendly and the representative of the tribunial is lovely too, i was nervous about going, but she is really friendly and if we can get married in the Catholic Church it will be my h2b's dream come true, so it will be worth all the hard work, but get it sorted as soon as possible as it may take some time to sort out, I have my second meeting on Friday, hopefully will get the rest of the questions sorted then x
