Can anyone recommend a stunning hotel in Egypt for our honeymoon?
We have found plenty of hotels but as it is somewhere neither of us have been before, we want somewhere really special

Ok, you're probably looking at Sharm then. that's the tourist bit with lots of options. We went a couple of years back in December and it was still very warm. I wouldn't recommend the hotel we stayed at for a honeymoon though, and it's a bit far out in my opinion. You could take a look at the Four Seasons - they are consistently good (I haven't stayed at this one). Check out trip advisor on the net too - great for getting reviews and ideas x

I thought Sharm may be too touristy for what we are after, is there anything a bit lower key?
I stayed in Luxor about 12 years ago and much preferred it tbh. Still quite touristy, but quieter - prob due to the lack of beach, but the hotels do well with their pools there. TBH, it's best to stick to the tourist areas - it's much safer.

Hurghada is meant to be a lot quieter than sharm but still Red Sea and warm - only been to sharm myself and it was ok but nit really what I'd want for a honeymoon. There is the med coast too but don't know much about that!
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

The hotel I would recommend in Hurghada is Premier Le Reve. Rated number one on trip advisor and it's supposed to be flawless. You could also go to Taba, there are some stunning hotels there, and you can get to Petra in Jordan for a trip too. Alternatively, you could do a Nile Cruise in Luxor, or stay in a hotel on the Nile. The Sheraton Luxor is supposed to be amazing. Luxor hotels tend to be Half Board though. If you need any help then message me. I'm the manager of a travel agent (the one with the red smile)

Ah thanks Tanya Just had a look at Taba Heights which seems nice Will take a look at the suggested hotel. I did find one which looked completely stunning but I get the feeling it may be pretty isolated Makadi Bay View and Golf Resort Do you know it?

We're off to Sharm in 2 weeks staying at the Hilton Sharks Bay. Never been to Egypt before but wanted some sun while h2b is on r&r from afghan. We decided on Sharm because of all the problems and foreign office recommendations for safety, we chose that hotel because it has all we need without having to venture out too far. It'll probably drive us mad because we like to explore.
I can't wait until 29/06/2013

Not familiar with the Makadi Bay hotel, but Makadi Bay is apparently very nice... When I went to Hurghada, I stayed in the 'village' area, which is quite a new development very close to the airport. I probably would not recommend that part for a honeymoon as it is new and there is a lot of building work going on to develop the area and it looks like a building site outside of the existing hotels. Have you managed to look at Premier Le Reve yet?

Sharm is aboustly lovely! The Sheradon is nice! We looked at going back to eypgt but as the contry was in unrest we decided it was too dangerous to go. Is it now safe to travel again? xx

I think the tourist bits are perfectly safe (apart from those shark attacks in sharm last year!)
A few friends have been away and had a great time xx

Sharm was never a risk during the Arab Spring. The town is run independently from the rest of Egypt, there is NO unemployment there as the town was built for tourism, and it's as far away from Cairo as Paris is from Manchester... Hurghada was fine too, again it's far enough away from Cairo and Luxor to not be as affected.

I would personally stay away from Sharm only as it is a bit annoying to walk around day/night without being harassed by locals. Heat is good but..... (have stayed there many times but only as we are divers - wouldn't go if didn't dive). if you did want to though I would suggest Sharks Bay which is outside of sharm (quiet, locals lovely and not a long drive to Sharm Na'amaBay which is where the party/bars main part of sharm is).
Hurghada is nice but not much there - we did stay in a cool hotel which had a lazy river (sit in a tube and currents in the river like pool took you around while you sipped your cocktail!! :) Google Hurghada lazy river hotel and you will get name (in case can't suggest on here) Imagine it would be easy to arrange trips to desert (quad rides / camel rides etc) If you are a diver I can help with suggestions on places to go/not go! :) Good luck!

I went to Egypt last year and am returning this December, mainly because we loved our hotel so much. Have a look at the Sensatori with Thomson. Highly recommended.

Anyone, if and when you went to Egypt, did you do 4 or 5 stars? My friend has offered to be in line with online deals for us, but she said best to do 5 stars. We are doing all inclusive, but by going 5 stars will outstretch our budget.
Anyone gone 4 star and recommend it? Thanks in advance

4* will be fine, just make sure you research thoroughly first. (I'd recommend this for a 5* too). Read Trip Advisor reviews, but also bear in mind that Egypt in general usually doesn't do as well in food ratings, simply because of the difference in how it is cooked, which a lot of people are not used to (Turkey is very similar in this respect). And use the review sites as they are supposed to be used- not every review will be amazing for any hotel. I have so many customers who sit and look at the site with me, and there could be 10 fab reviews, followed by one bad review, and the customer will say "oh, no... won't go there..."!! People have a tendency to only remember the bad.

Tanya thanks for that, and yes you are right, people only remember the bad, it's similar at the maternity unit. People will happily complain when they believe things are not up to scratch, however, they forget that when they rave about their care they do nothing about it.
