    Hi

We went to a wedding at the end of August and haven't received a thank you card or note. Now, I'm not normally a stickler for etiquette and I know they fed us and got us drunk (lol) but we travelled to the other end of the country and paid for two nights in a hotel as well as buying them a dinner service from the registry. I just thought that it would be polite to send thank you cards or notes - we haven't even had a text!

Are these now a thing of the past? I always thought that it was a given that you sent out thank you cards after the wedding? I'm not particularly upset about it but just thought it was a bit odd...I will certainly be sending them, but is anyone else not doing?? Xx

I dont think they are a thing of the past although I didnt get them from two weddings we went to last year, but the other 4 we did!

I will be sending thank you cards and to be fair I don't think you are allowing the couple enough time. They would have been on honeymoon during that time and sorting other bits out after the wedding, so may not have got round to it just yet xx

I don't think they are a thing of the past. I think it's really important to send thank you notes. I certainly will be doing it. Some people just don't think that way though, my BM got married early this year and nothing from her... I never expected anything though, i've know her for years and she is the most terrible hostess! You'll be at her house 2 hours and she won't get you a drink unless you ask if you can have one! lol! Just her ditsy way.

I definitely think you should do it though. I'm going to make my own and have factored them in with the stationary supplies I 've bought for the invites to save a few pennies. I've bought a rubber stamp and i'm going to make thank you "postcards" to save on envelopes. There are lots of good DIY sites online that can give you a few ideas.

Yeah, you might be right...mind you, I don't think they've been on honeymoon, although I'm sure they'll have had lots to sort out after the wedding. How long do they normally wait until they get sent out?

I was just a bit surprised as they don't strike me as the sort of person to overlook something like that.

    Xx

My friend sent her's out as anniversery thank you's!
Was lovely and so different I thought, they had a little news letter type thing's in it telling everyone what had happened within the year and how much they appriciated us, the guests, being there on the day they started their journey as a married couple!

As a general rule they have three months to get the notes out. Most people I know have sent them out within a month of coming back from their honeymoon.

I dont think they are a thing of the past either. When i get married in 2014, i am planning to send out Thank You cards. I might be doing it sooner then anybody else, due to not having a honeymoon. :)

We are planning on using a pic from our honeymoon as we are asking for honeymoon as a wedding present, and making it like a postcard (as others have said). Think its a nice personal touch then! xx

Some people use one of their wedding pics as a thank you card, maybe they are still waiting for pics back.

It's very early days yet IMPO for an end of August wedding.

My OH and I will be marrying beginning of August 2014, we then plan to go away on honeymoon for about 3 weeks the following week, so won't be back until September. We hope to move into our first home together after we're back from the honeymoon, which will keep us very busy for several weeks. At that point, I'll also be in my last year of my research degree, so very busy with my studies.

We will definitely be sending out thank you cards, but I'd like them to be personal and hand-written, so realistically, I can't see us getting them out until late October/early November.

I think etiquette states 3 months, though I might be wrong; if I didn't get one within about 4 months I'd probably feel a bit miffed, and I do think it's bad etiquette not to send them at all; but I wouldn't judge someone for not having sent them within just 6 weeks.

We went to a wedding at the start of august and haven't had a thank you card. I'm really annoyed about it to be honest as I think it's just manners. I will definitely be sending thank you cards.
This same couple didn't give gifts to the best man or bridesmaids either, so I don't think we'll be getting a thank you.

Ah, I'm not annoyed or disappointed about it, was just wondering what the etiquette for it was, as another guest also commented on the fact that she thought it was odd not to have sent one, we will be doing it certainly. Xx
