So me and my H2B will be getting married during september. We're both different nationalities and both have a very different diet! My family are Asian and are vegetarians, and his are English and meat eaters.
This has kind of left me stuck on what to do about catering and dishes. Is there a way to incorporate the two so that everyone is happy?
I'm really not sure what my options are, so if there is anyone that is in the same situation what kind of things did you go for??
Thanks! :)

Wow that's a tough one as very different food types. Can you have a meat and vegetarian option?

is it Septemebr this year you get married? has your venue offered any ideas? x

We're having an Anglo-Asian theme to our food, with a mix of canapes and mini-mains - that way our guests can choose according to preference. We're going with an external catering company though to make this possible, so we're not restricted to say a hotel kitchen with a package wedding.

you could always get your venue to do a hot buffet selection and do maybe 3 meals with meat and 3 veggie so people can pick and choose what they want? x
We had Chinese food at our wedding: (with a western dessert)
CANAPES UNDER CONCORDE @ 1630 Satay chicken Vegetable spring rolls Prawn toast
WEDDING BREAKFAST @ 1830 Starter(Served in individual platters on each table x 10): Duck & pancakes with hoisin sauce, cucumbers etc
Main Course (Buffet Service): Beef in Black bean sauce Stir -Fried Prawn with ginger and bean shoots Lemon chicken with spring onions
Steamed Rice Plain Noodles Stir Fried Noodles with chinese vegetable (V)
Dessert (Buffet Service): Vanilla Cheese Cake
We only had two vegetarians though so didn't cater too much for them. I'm sure we could have had some more vegetable dishes if we'd wanted.

Yeah I'm thinking i'm going to have to spend a bit more than I initially planned on catering, to either have vege options, or just do 2 different cuisines altogther. I do love the canape and mini mains option, thats really unique! Are you having quite a lot of mini dishes being served as a sit down meal then?
Also the chinese buffet with an english dessert sounds good. How does a meat and vegetarian asian feast sound with some traditional english desserts?

I think that sounds good to have a meat and veggy asian feast with english deserts. It's the best of both worlds, plus i think a lot of meat eaters would happily eat veggy dishes aswell so you can have quite a lot of them. xxx

We have 9 canapes, 5 mini main options (guests can have all if they want!) and 5 desserts on tea tiers plus wedding cake. You just need to negotiate with your caterer, we got all of this plus welcome drinks, chair hire, table setup and staff for 27 per head. The mini mains instead of being served buffet style will be plated up and taken from table to table on trays like a dim sum service as we didn't want our guests to queue for food :-)
Canapes Steamed Siu Mai with Malaysian Chilli sauce Crispy Goosnargh Duck pancakes served with Hoisin Deep fried bean curd served with crispy leeks Tempura prawn served with a Chilli aioli Mini fish and chips - served in the Financial Times Tempura vegetables Cornish Pasties with Brown Sauce Thai Chicken Lemon Grass Sticks Mini cheeseburgers
Mini-Mains Seared fillet of welsh beef served with au poivre sauce and chunky chips Salt n pepper king prawn served with vermicelli noodles Stir fried vegetable rice noodles Lamb Hotpot with pickled red cabbage Mushroom and spring onion dumplings served with a lemon and soy syrup
Desserts SERVED ON AFTERNOON TEA TIERS Fresh Fruit Kebabs with Minted Crème Fraiche Baked Vanilla Cheesecake Mini Pavlova Chocolate and Raspberry Trifles Assorted Choux Pastries Tea/Coffee Wedding Cake

We're going to try and have fusion.
Hoping to have Chinese finger food for the canapes (mixture of meat and veggie), then the wedding breakfast will be the traditional English 3 courses (one meat and one veggie option) and then the evening buffet will be hog roast with accompaniments that vegetarians can eat.
