Thinking we would like our vows to be slightly different from the norm Will this be allowed in a civil ceremony at our hotel venue?
I know any religious elements must be avoided but are we able to change the wording/create our own vows? Does anyone know?
Also is anyone else having different vows? Feel free to share them! Although i may cry whilst reading them! All things wedding make me blub like a baby at the moment!!!

This is what i have come up with/come across so far and really like
I ___________take you ____________to be my husband/wife/partner To have and to hold from this day forward. I give to you my unending love and devotion. I promise to be true to you, to cherish you, and to share my thoughts, hopes, and dreams with you. I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you, my best friend. I will love you forever.
I love you. You are my best friend. Today I, ____________, commit myself to you. I promise to encourage and inspire you, to laugh with you, and to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle. I promise to love you in good times and in bad, when life seems easy and when it seems hard. When our love is simple, and when it is an effort. I promise to cherish you, and to always hold you in highest regard. These things I give to you today, and all the days of our life.

well basically the ideas i have are to make promises of what we will do, i personally dont like these vows where people DESCRIBE thier partner ie youre hadsome etc. what i mean is i prefer things like
i vow to cherish and adore you, support you in all you do, laugh with you, cry with you,
things like that.
obviously my partner is female so the wording will be suitable to a woman, ie i take you as my wife, i vow to cherish love and honour you. I promise to be there or you for the rest of our lives together, to support you in life ventures, to raise you up when youre feeling down...
that's all the ideas i have at the moment.

I really like the second one
We have had such tough tough times in the last 8 years that it seems more fitting to us as a couple.

You can have a set of your own vows in addition to the other stuff, but not instead of. There is a section you HAVE to have as its a legal requirement. as long as you do the legal parts, then i think its fair game to do a it of ad-libbing as well
I can resist anything but temptation

As Anne Says, there are two lines that have to be said by law, other than that you can write something personal to you.

We have added a bit into ours that will include the girls as they are from my first marriage. The vows are for them and h2b to say to join us all into one united family! :-)
Like has been said tho as long as the main ones are done for the law then you can have pretty much anything you like!

The vows may need to be checked in advance by the registrar first but you can write your own. We're having a part to say about laughing together through our whole lives as I think you're partners are needed to be there in happy as well as sad times xx
