Ladies, how much are you all paying for your cakes?
We need a cake big enough to feed 60 and are thinking of round, 2 tier Would like to get an idea as to how much your all paying as we have a cake maker in mind but would like to know the going rate before we approach her

mine is quite expensive but i love her wedding cakes and couldn't have got the same quality in design from any were else around here its a 4 tier in 4 flavours of sponge and is going to have the top tier in the style of my birdcages its all handcrafted in royal icing which is her speciality and is going to cost £450 inc delivery and setup the high price is due to the hours or work it will take to get the lace design made on all 4 tiers which is iced by hand on to the cake.
depending on design and the amount of work i would say no more then £200 what sort of cake are you thinking of x
Krissy, this is what we stumbled across on the net

Thanks Ladies. When i said checked supermarkets, i meant for the plain white iced, boxed cakes you can buy and decorate. They only seem to be fruit ones.
Seen a nice few on M&S website and i thought they were good value until i have spoken to a few people going to independant cake makers and getting cheaper quotes.

I've looked around a little bit, and most have quoted about £300-400 for a plain 3-4 tier round cake to serve 100; so I'd have thought a two-tier serving 60 should cost about half that (maybe £150-200). But a lot of it depends on the design; I really want a lace design, but it will probably cost about £750 as it's very labour-intensive; so, I think I'm going to go for something more simple, maybe 3 sugar flowers on top, then a ribbon and broach; this should only cost about £50 extra.
You could also get a plain cake and decorate it yourself (eg with ribbons/flowers/broaches) which will work out cheaper.
Also, IMPO it's a must to try a sample first; I've tried a few and only one was good IMPO, and ultimately when it comes to a cake, the taste is very important.

Thanks ladies. We have contacted the fab cake lady we met at a wedding fayre. The bakery has been run by her family for over 40 years and i have always known it to be there from being very young Her cake is to die for tried a few samples and think we will gfo to the shop to try some different flavours.
This is the best bit........ 2 tiers (fairly plain) to feed 60 = £130!!!!!
