I couldn't find another thread about this. I am going to finalise decisions about menu in a few days at our reception menu, but wondered if any of uou could help me. My main meal is gonna be 3 courses starting around 3.30 with canapes before, so I am not sure if we should cater for 75% or more or less I certainly do not want to cater for 100% of evening guests as the cheapest/smallest evening buffet deal includes 7 different things, and cake is big enough for 200 small portions and we wont be more than 110. and buffet will be set for around 8/9pm and stays out for max 2 hours. for how many have you girls planned to cater at night?

my venue is being mean and making us pay for ALL who attend because they dont want to look bad by not putting out enough food. However, our attitude is they are not exactly going to check so we are going to not put food down for the band, photographers etc, but let them help themselves anyways. I am not paying an additional 15 per head for them on top of their fees, even though contracts say we have to feed them (but at least they said they were happy with a sandwich)

We're catering for 70% of our evening guests, but we are ordering quite a bit per person so I'm expecting there to be more than enough x

We're having 65 guests so catering for 65 at wedding breakfast - planning on having 130-150 in the evening but only catering for 80-100 because of course 60odd of those people will have already eaten!

Our contract states we've to cater for 80% of evening guests but that suits me, like you delirium I want to make sure ours have plenty to eat - they're all big drinkers and providing they've got plenty in their belly, the drunken riots should be kept to a minimum x

our venue has a minimum of 120 people policy for the evening so we are catering for that even though we have 160 guests lie it has been mentioned people will have eaten before they come and the day guests will hopefully still wont have much room after the wedding breakfast. Plus out of the 160 we have invited im sure some of those will be on holiday or wont turn up x

Oh I need to check with my venue if they expect 100% to be catered for.

We're having 60 at the meal, including children but having 2 courses. Once the evening guests have arrived (which is actually going to be at about 4.30pm, we'll cut the cake and use that as desert/afternoon tea so that it actually gets eaten. Our evening numbers are circa 120 and we're going to do a buffet in between the ceilidh and disco.

How much food do you reckon evening guests need, in terms of the number of canape's/sandwiches/bacon rolls etc? What sort of food items are in your evening buffets for those who are having them?

as for how much the guests will need its hard to say as you always get a few people who will load there plate with a few of everything then some who will just take a couple of sandwiches!! i would say a couple of sandwiches and sausage rolls each and then the nibble things. Our buffet is sandwiches, chicken skewers, quiche, sausage rolls, wedges and coleslaw and salads and we will cut the wedding cake for dessert x

catering for all day guests, but catering for only 75% of evening guests we are having a buffet with 9 different items, then our cake and also a small candy buffet so think this will be plenty to go around. also i think it will also be ok as there is always 1 or 2 people that dont show without letting you know.

That's quite a gap in between the day meal and the evening buffet, so I would cater for at least 50% evening guests - depends how many you have for day and night though? The majority of our are day (170) and night is only about 40, so we're not actually adding any food numbers for evening at all!

Thanks ladies I have a better idea now, spoken with my mum as well, and remembering OH's cousin wedding last year, she only had bacon butties, that I didn't even notice and I was definitely not hungry at all, so we're gonna discuss with venue if its OK to cater for only 70, which is about the number of day guests.

78 in the day then in the evening we have around 110 and were going to be catering for around 70 ish but were only having a nibbles buffet with little bits like crisps, cheese & pineapple and wedges i didnt see point in forking out loads for a biger buffet when most of the guests would of just eaten a 2 course meal.

I'm thinking 75% of the evening guests, I only just found out that theres a seperation between wedding brek. and eve reception, before I thought the amount of guests was the same throughout the WHOLE day and eve lol! It makes SO much more sense now, but now I dont kno who to invite to the evening breakfast, because it will now make it ALOT cheaper now we dont need to invite all 80 planned guests to wedding brek. And now we can also invite lots and lots of people to the eve buffet!!
