I know we are paying for their time and effort, but i have just bought a bunch of 6 beautiful peonies from tesco for £4!!! I am getting charged about £8 per head for mine! (ok, they are coming from New Zealand, but still)

there were beautiful roses there for £8 a bunch, and I reckon 3 bunches would easy make a lovely hand tied posey. Slap a bit of ribbon round the stems and bobs your uncle. (I do have an uncle called Bob, never quite got that saying)

I know that florist flowers are supposed to be better quality, but we only need them to look good for 1 day!! (we are going on honeymoon the very next day, so cant even enjoy them at home after).

I'm also using foam so I can keep them after too. I think if you are wanting hand tied then they are pretty easy to do yourself its just when you start to go into shower and teardrops that I wouldn't take the chance with real flowers. Might be worth you giving it a try before the day. What have you got to lose?

i just had my heart set on real flowers, and my flower designer is doing a beautiful bouquet for me that I would never manage myself. But their mark up must be incredible.

I'm set on real flowers and a friend's mum who is a competitive flower arranger offered to do ours. She says that her friend who's a florist mark up her flowers by 300% and then adds a little bit more on top.

I understand that they need to make money but to buy the same flower arrangements for a dinner party is about half the price that it is for a wedding and it drives me crackers.

If The Apprentice is anything to go by I think beauty therapy is the business for the brilliant mark-ups, even more than floristry. Maybe a flowers and facials service would work.

Florists to charge a lot more. Mine gave me 2 quotes, one with the flowers I'd requested and one with similar looking but cheaper alternatives which halved the cost! I've gone with the cheaper option and realise she must be making a profit on this as well. I hope people aren't expecting me to toss my bouquet as afterwards I'm splitting it up and placing flowers on my brother and each of my grandparents graves. We're even taking one of our white Yorkshire roses to my h2b's great grandfather's grave in Ypres where he died whilst serving in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
Sounds like you've answered your own question and could do them yourself :) x

So far (yes theres even more to add) we have spent 1100 on flowers. Mil2b went the wholesalers and said she could do it in 300. She is now going to do all our extras as a result but we wanted the main ones done by a professional even though mil2b is fantastic, I wanted to make sure they would be perfect by getting a professional in.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo
    start weight 10st 1.5 lbs
    weight now 8st 4.5 lbs
total loss to date: 24.5 lbs now need to maintain!

My church have offered to let me go with them to the market when they buy their flowers for the church arrangements. They will get the flowers to tie in with our theme. Yes we're paying for them and the ribbon etc but they were gonna be done anyway and at least they are gonna arrange it for free. Just a thought for saving some money x

That's incredibly high mark up, But i think their cost acquiring their products and care may affect the pricing thats why it's best to buy on florist that grow their own Flower Got mine in ***
