I say Glasgow as it's closed to me but I could maybe get to Edinburgh as long as I can find somewhere to crash...I mean I could get the last train to Glasgow and stay with my brother (which is 10 to 12)

Im in greenock, so obviously glasgow is my first choice, then stirling. Although i do have a friend in edinburgh so should be able to get their is needed as well - then go to hers and crash.

as for june, weekend should be fine as my mum can watch the kids, only dates i have something planned is the 22-23 so i should be fine for whatever you decide

edit - change to glasgow then edinburgh then stirling. as its only £11.40 to get to endinburgh for a return. If i cant persude other half to bring me -or if he is working etc.

Glasgow would be my second choice after Edinburgh, it's much easier for me to get to than Stirling.

Edinburgh does have the advantage of a great picnic spot right in the city centre if the weather's good and loads of fantastic cafes and bars if the weather isn't!

I chose Glasgow - Ordinarily I would really enjoy a day out in Edinburgh but since it will be June and a matter of weeks til my wedding, I doubt I'd be able to afford anywhere further afield. If it's Glasgow count me in tho x

i don't get why its such a problem with Glasgow??? Im in Aberdeen and ill probably have to travel down from here!!! I don't mind...its central really to every where and only a hour on the train from stirling or edinburgh if that!!!

and i think everyone wants to meet for drinks and cocktails rather than sitting with sandwiches and scones..but thats just the vibe im getting off here ...maybe some others do want to do afternoon tea though! if its goin to be a hassle for glasgow, i think it would be best to arrange a edinburgh one for those like yourself would prefer there

There are in fact some lovely places in Glasgow to eat and drink, we have places that are just as nice for things like that as Edinburgh does.

I know a place, went their with OH work night out, i dont know when they open though, I know they have a casino etc within the place - but i didnt get to see it as we had to leave to get back to the kids. The drinks were reasonable to stupid - £650 for a bottle of champagne (ok it is the dearest bottle their lol) quite "upmarket" sort of place, but maybe thats because i was going for a meal out rather than day time event. I could find out more about it in a few hours when OH comes home (bout 5) if you want. The orange & lemonade i had was about £1.80-2 roughly, so abut the same price as having one at a pub etc.

or depending if people are driving (not sure about edinburgh but i know glasgow has buses their every 10 -20 min for next to nothing) , we could meet at glasgow fort - a little closer to edinburgh - though not much i guess - just easier for car parking than the centre. We could get a salad at pizza hut and help me watch my waist line - lol

In all seriousness, im not to clued up on glasgow as i rarely go.And only place i ever go for a meal out type thing is my wedding venue in ayr. But if you want to go their fine by me - they do 2 for 1 meals and the food is great, also lovely place.

Im open to all suggestions, as you can see mine don't help much, although i will ask my OH when he comes in.

talk about taking things outta context!!!! *sigh* if im going to be honest sundae, it sounded a bit snobbish your response like Glasgow is not good enough for you and it is obviousuly a hassle to travel from edinburgh to glasgow for you which is fair enough ...like i said im sure there would be people willing to meet in edinburgh!!! but i dont mind travelling..i like to go on the bus or train down!! and its worth it at the end of the day to meet these fab people

I'd suggest exactly the same sort of thing in Edinburgh. Somewhere you can have cocktails and cakes that doesn't have hellishly loud music. Do we really want to go somewhere where there's music so loud you can't hear anyone else speak or hundreds of blokes screaming at the football?

There are lots of options in Glasgow within walking distance of both city centre train stations, many of which will do nice lunches and cocktails, I'm sure there will be some to suit every budget as well depending on what people want, from the more upmarket places like the Corinthian, Metropolitan or Arta, down to many varied wetherspoons, and lots in between lol depending what folk want to spend.
Like I said before, I would have been happy to travel to the other cities should that be the majority vote, if it was not for it being so close to my wedding.

I think it was the corinthian we went to, it is lovely in their - but as i said upmarket, but on the way to corinithain their is lots of nice wee cafe's - not sure of the name but its near their the light netting it up, that look wonderful. with outdoor or indoor seating.

I had been looking at arta for the wedding. - just on a side note

I was more worried about finding somewhere that's got a nice atmosphere.

I don't dislike Glasgow, and I know a few lovely places around the city centre, I was just concerned with somewhere that it isn't really noisy.

McEwan I think you're talking about Royal Exchange Square with the lights, there are some nice places there as well. There's a nice bar called The Social which do lovely cocktails there. I don't think you would have to worry about these places being overly noisy or crowded Sundae, esp if it's the afternoon we're going.

its a 2 course lunch for about £11.50 at the corinthian if that gives you an idea price wise. When i went it had been really noisy, but i think that is because they were jam packed full - not helping that 50 of the people thei was from andy's work lol.
Music wise i didn't find it too loud, and if the place is packed we could always go somewhere less noisy.

OR how about i solve the fighting and say greenock - my house, you can side on the decking with your feet in the river, watching the koi and goldfish, and ill make tea cakes, sannies, alcoholic drinks etc??
    LOL

and also - on a side note - and I'm not trying to cause any arguments here honest!! but I was just wondering what would make you think Glasgow pubs would be any noisier than Edinburgh or anywhere else? I'm just wondering because it's interesting to see different peoples perceptions of different places x

I wasn't saying it would be any quieter in Edinburgh. I'd also be suggesting quieter places. I just meant that a lot of pubs and bars show the football weekend afternoons and that tends to be incredibly noisy.

all of the options are quite far south for me. Glasgow and Edinburgh are both 4 hours on the train!!

and if i WAS going to go, then I would prefer dinner and drinks. But at the mo, getting a train to the central belt and accomodation is gonna be far too expensive as we need every penny for the wedding......... boo

Stirling is only just over an hour from south Ayrshire. Its 3.5hrs from Inverness. And 2hrs 45mins from Aberdeen. So its not exactly central!

Perth on the other hand is: 2hrs from South Ayr, 1hr 15 from Glasgow, 2hrs from Aberdeen and 2hrs 36 from Inverness.

I dont think it matters much where we decide, it will always be an inconvenience for some. I know it unfair for people from aberdeen and further afield to come to glasgow or edinburgh, but i think they both get picked most often as 1. they are the two biggest places in scotland, and 2. most people live nearer one or the other of them.

yes but is the whole point not to have a meet up that as many girls as possible can go to?? and if we are gonna be expected to come down from the north of scotland, why cant the glasgow and edinburgh girls be expected to just travel for an hour north?

    its compromise.
