It's essential. Covers you if anything happens. Not expensive in the scheme of things. We got ours from e and l. - found they offered the best cover for the best price

It protects you if something goes wrong.. ie: Sickness or worst of all the wedding is called off... things like that..
it depends on how much you are/have spent on the wedding. Im not having insurance as we are only spending £k on our wedding.
CommentAuthorEmmaLouise
Thanks Tinsel and Thrish. I was hoping it wouldn't be too expensive it's another of those "hidden" expenses, our contract with the venue says we need it though sooo....I'm all googled out I thought I'd ask :)
Most people go with e&l, some with Debenhams, some John Lewis. Try a comparison website x

we were naughty and didnt get any i wouldn't advise doing that, thankfully nothing went wrong but if it did we would have been buggered! we did look and just didnt get around to choosing one, they arent expensive so do it x

Im covered with E&L, they are reasonable i paid a one off payment of £26, it puts your mind at rest!!
CommentAuthorXLittleMissMe!X
Its not expensive for what it does. £30 covers 10k. Put it this way can you afford to lose your dress deposit or venue deposit if they go under? Can you afford to re do the whole day if you have some emergency and can't get married on the day?
CommentAuthorMrsDadson :0)
We went with debenhams, I think it was around the £50 mark, but depends on the cost of the wedding :) xx
CommentAuthorSijen
Oooh you've scared me into it now...we haven't taken any out yet but then we've only paid deposits for venue, DJ and photographer.

i still havnt got it and get married in 3 and a half months! keep putting it off! really need to get it sorted! xx
CommentAuthorMel D
We went with E and L too - it was the first thing we paid for, before we paid out any deposits so that everything would be covered. It's highly unlikely something will go wrong, but it's better to be safe than sorry - isn't that why we get home and travel insurance too?

Yes it covers you for everything that you have wedding related as long as you have the paperwork for it to show what you have paid and to who etc.
CommentAuthorCharlz
i was gonna take out some but h2b says its not worth it our quote was only £18 from e&l but still he is very tight with money. (im surprised were getting married at all with how tight he can be lol) just keeping my fingers crossed all will go smoothly x
CommentAuthorRags
I'm currently struggling on this one, and after reading the reviews on E&L will not touch them with a barge poll. However I am struggling to work out which level of cover I need. I (unexpectedly) have budgeted the wedding to around £10k, obviously we hope to bring that down.
It seems the cancellation cover is the way to work out which one you need, but what do you include in that - the whole cost of the wedding or just the reception or what?? I am truely confused.
Just looking at my-wedding insurance, does anyone know anything about them?

there is no way i would go with e & l either. the reviews are shocking. think i will use debs... as far as i know it is the whole things, service, and reception as anything can go wrong
CommentAuthorSijen
I've just got a great deal (30% online discount) - I've put the link on my wall...there's also a 'Planning' page with loads of help and advice for weddings etc.
I've just bought £12,500 level of cover (2nd one) for £28.21 and that was with the 30% off - so a really good deal!

I've just found a really bad review of them though - slating them saying they're just as bad as e&l, but the review said it was because he cancelled his wedding due to bad weather but when he phoned the insurance company they asked if people could still attend so wouldn't pay out because they could....it does say all this in the small print - which I read thoroughly before confirming! You know what it's like, 1 bad review makes you run a mile...I've booked it now and paid.

to be fair i imagine that would be his fault. why would you cancel your wedding knowing people can still get there. this is england and you can never predict the weather
CommentAuthorSijen
Yep! My thought's exactly hun...It does say in the docs that if 50% or more of your guests cannot attend due to weather then you are covered but not if you cancel it due to weather!

It clearly states what the insurance covers and doesn't cover and I'm sure that no company would cover you for bad weather.
If your other half is being tight about £18 just ask him how tight he will be if a supplier runs away with your deposits or even full balance and he has to pay that money out again? Ask him what would happen if heaven forbid one of your parents or close relatives were to die just before the wedding or you were taken ill. I know I couldn't pay for my whole wedding if anything where to happen.
CommentAuthorUnknown
maybe he was looking for a reason to cancel?! as long as we could get there and 2 people to witness it we would still go ahead!!
CommentAuthorRags
Myweddinginsurance is a no no. OMG just went through the T&C's and then the whole quote and payment details, just before I clicked buy now - after having input my bank details - it said if paying by cheque make it payable to E&L!!!! WTF I am off to the bank to see if they can help me - my usual insurance broker doesn't do events insurance!

CommentAuthorSijen
They are another company which aren't really rated TBH...lots of loopholes, but I think that about any insurance...Our's is an affialiate of e & l but I'm happy with the deal and completely understand everything about it. I suppose it's what you want from it that will make you buy from them!

I'm with e & l too - although I seem to remember someone on here saying they had a bit of trouble with them because of a loophole or something?
CommentAuthorSijen
KayteeG - as with all insurance companies they have loopholes to try and get out of paying out when things go wrong but if you read the terms and conditions clearly you will know exactly what they will pay out for if and when it is required.
A lot of people had a b!tch and moan about e&l saying they wouldnt pay out for things etc, but if it's your fault that anything goes wrong with the wedding or it's cancelled then of course they wont pay out...if it's the venue / suppliers / illness of bride and groom then yes they'll pay out....as with any insurance!

Ok, asking people who might know 1. Can I add wedding prezzies/money to my household insurance to cover? 2. Is it worth buying wedding insurance when I'm doing/making most things myself? 3. Is it worth buying if I come in at budget, which is only £1,000? Any help appreciated xx
WARNING:
I say the first thing I think of!
CommentAuthorKayteeG
Yes yes and yes!
CommentAuthorKayteeG
I'm almost positive pressies can be added - I'm doing/making most things myself too, but if for example, the venue burnt down the night before the wedding, you wouldn't hae to fork out to re-book somewhere else, even if it was only a couple of hundred quid to hire. We have a small budget too, but didn't want to risk one of us being ill and having to cancel, or something happening at the venue or something
CommentAuthorKaz
I'll look into it then, function room's only £140 but anywhere else would be alot more expensive which is why we went for the venue to start with lol xx
WARNING:

CommentAuthorSijen
Kaz - you can get various levels of cover depending on the cost of your wedding so I would definately look into it. Even just to cover the caterers going bust or flowers / cars not turning up. Dress ripping the week before etc....all the really scary stuff you dread!
