Yes another list!!!! Apologies ladies! We are set to visit our venue again tomorrow and Im armed with a notebook full of questions some relate to our chosen venue but most are general questions which you should ask any prospective venue...heres a start and please add more. Hopefully you will add some that I can add to my plethora of questions for our poor venue manager! (-:xxx
1) An obvious one but ...is the venue available on your chosen day? 2) Is the function room/venue big enough to accomodate your chosen guest list? 3) Will there be any other weddings held on that day? 4) f theres accomodation...will your guests get a preferential discount? 5) Do you accomodate children? ie highchairs, mother and baby facilities, bottle warming? 6) Do you allow under 3's to eat free? 7) Do you have a seperate childrens menu or 1/2 portion of the adults menu for children? 8) Do you do a childrens drinks package? 9) Do you require a minimum public liability insurance? (some venues require a £2 or £5 million pi insurance) 10) Once a deposit is paid will there be any price increase, VAT increase or extra charges (we nearly got stung by this one at our old venue) 11) How much is your deposit and is it refundable (if not refundable is it transferrable as we nearly lost £300 deposit but transferred it so now we are having a christmas evening meal with entertainment for 12 people) 12) What time does the bar close? Is this flexible/can you get an extension if required? 13) Will your venue accomodate your chosen decorations/theme/special items ie choc fountain/luge/candy buffet 14) What percentage of guests need to be catered for? (most venues are 75 - 80% some cheeky venues are 100%) 15) Do you have to pay any short fall for expected numbers? 16) Is there a minimum bar spend? (1venue we looked at required a min £1000 bar spend and any shortfall to be made up by ourselves) 17) Are there any noise pollution restrictions in the venue area ie for fireworks or live/loud music after midnight. 18) Will you be allowed to move any furniture etc...? 19) If hiring chair covers are the chairs to be used round top or square top? 20) What is a rough price guide for bar drinks? (hotels are notoriously pricey) 21) Do you need guest meal choices beforehand? (if more than 1 option per course)
Obviously not necessarily all will apply to your venue but I hope this thread helps you ask all questions needed. xxx

Found it, thanks Hails. got some q's to ask. Is venue expecting to redecorate and if yes, what are they expecting to do? Are they looking to change their menu? Is decorating the venue included in the price and if yes, how much choice is there? Can own decorations be supplied?
Got married 11/11/11.

Also check before you start buying things if certain bits are allowed, ie: naked flames, table confetti, the fire lanterns, fireworks. Never ever assume!

its worth asking how early you can access the room to decorate it (if you want to do so yourself) as some let you go in the evening before whereas many are the morning of the wedding

Make sure you get the full list of accessories they can provide FOC - I had booked mirror center plates, crystals and tea lights with the woman who is doing the chair covers but then just double checked with our venue and they do these in the package plus put chair covers in the ceremony room so I saved a bit there

i will tweet ure questions about :
3- any other weddins- is the bar for our use only or if theres another weddin do we share? ( cos at ures theres 2 function room one up n down a seperate bar each! ) also i hav th eupstairs room wich has its own private entrance (i prefer its entrance than downstairs one) 8- childresn drink apckage i wudnt bother with 11- the deposit will be non refundable hun 12- if the bar closes at say 12 can people that r stayin at the hotel contine to drink and charge the drinks to their rooms 16- i have never heard this but trust me if ure havinure day n nite do the bar will take loads more than that!! ( my family will anyway heheheh) 21- u will pick ure menu hun then send little menus out wiv ure invites for the guests 2 choice and then u will give the numbers ot them on ure 3 month appointment or watevr time they want it
my questions to add...
1- do u get free overnite stay on the nite of the weddin? mayb even nite before? 2- our menu was set but we was allowed to pay £5 extra pp to give every1 a choice 3- if u wanna give alcoholic minatures to guests as favours r u allowed
ps corkage will be loads n not worth it!

Ask about staffing, the last thing you want is for your family/friends waiting for ages for food because they only put a couple of staff on to save costs!
