My main headache at the moment is to have enough entertainment, so far I have a dj for the eveing included in hotel package price, a magician thats £250 and a videopod (video guestbook) thats £275 this is because we cant afford nor want a videographer for the day. I would also like something before, during or after the church service, have thought about christmas carolers but not yet sure. Steve has a friend whos son is a fairly well known folk singer called Seth Lakeman and I would love him to do something at the wedding but not sure what. How much are you putting aside for entertainment? How important is it? And what kind of entertainment? xx

It's not a high priority for our day... saying that we are only having a small intimate day with only around 20 guests so not your 'normal' wedding.. Were just making some CD's up and playing them in our reception :)

If I was to have my dream wedding I would have a DJ/Band for the reception and maybe a harpist for the ceremony :) xx

its pretty high on my priorities. We are forking out £1100 for our band! they are really good though and play all our celidih stuff as well as oldies and modern pop stuff. Defo going to have enough going on the keep people entertained, just not quite sure what yet! People having a good time and making our wedding "nor your usual boring one" is really important to us!

We set aside £500 for our entertainment, and have managed to get a dj for only £295 and he is fab as we have seen him at other parties/weddings before. For our evening reception we just want everyone to have a good time, lots to drink and dance the night away and our dj fits this bill perfectly! He is going to do the children's entertainment for a hour or so as well to keep them all entertained while the evening guests are arriving.

We are not to sure what to do about church music and stuff just yet, i really want a string quartet but not to sure if the budget will stretch that far yet, but we will see in a year how much spare money we have got!! xxx

Low on our priority list, £200 tops. Having said that ceremony is late afternoon and finishes at 11pm so once food has been had people will have a few drinks they won't need oodles of entertainment. Peeps just tend to please themselves though having a few drinks and chatting...

Band was a high priority for us, as we want everyone to have a good party night. We thought venue and music was the most important things to get booked quickly.

The band we've booked is costing us £1150. x

We are having a DJ and a piper, and I've bought some garden games.

I don't think you need loads of entertainment- its the guests who provide the atmosphere.

Im lucky really as my mum has been a professional entertainer for the past 10 years so shes doing my engagment party and she also wants to do the wedding too. my main concern about her doing the wedding is that she wont be able to enjoy the day properly as she will have her work head on but she says this is fine with her and would consider it a great honour to do my wedding. so in a way im lucky as this is one less thing to worry about. she is a top notch act too and is a real crowd worker too xx

erm ive been lucky, im from a family of djs who are all eager to play for a stint at the wedding, they all specialise in different areas e.g. hip hop, pop, 90s or 80's etc so we will get a real mix of tunes and its for the grand price of £0!

We're getting married in Poland, so our reply is very different. I've never wanted a 'normal' British wedding, and ironically found myself a Polish girlfriend. I soon promoted her to fiancee and the rest is history.

Polish weddings do not believe in 'coaches at midnight'. More like, coaches at dawn or whenever you like. I've been to two Polish weddings so far and the band at both have finished no earlier than 5am.

Moreover, Polish weddings last two days, so we've got two bands, for two days, to play all evening and all morning (until dawn) for the grand total of £1625.

We fully appreciate that getting married in England is a far costlier affair where you're kicked out at midnight. Last year, we were kicked out of a wedding at 11:48pm. I'm disgusted at what some companies charge couples - they hear the word 'wedding' and start adding on the zeros :(

Fully agree.. It's not fair how they make it more expensive just because it's a wedding. Most companies I try not to mention wedding to get the real price lol :)

Our DJ is £180 and we are also having an adult magician costing £400 - he is fantastic! I would really like a videopod too as we haven't got a videographer but will have to wait until nearer the time to book that when we know what pennies are spare - if any! I do think entertainment is important though, nothing worse than being bored (well maybe hungry..) at a wedding.

My bro works in a rock bar in town who have loads of gigs so i have asked him to get pally with some bands and see if we can get a free gig out of someone.
