I would love to run a part time catering business from home that just do simple finger and fork buffets.
I have been looking around at buffet prices and have found that so many are charging at least £6 per head just for a simple buffet (thats without anything hot, just sandwiches, sausage rolls etc).
I want to be able to provide a buffet service that doesn't completely rip people off, and feel that for a basic buffet I could charge £3 per head, with a fork buffet costing £5 and still be making some profit.
I really want to give it a go but H2B says its a stupid idea and he will not support my decision to do it. I feel really upset as I have never really had a goal or any hobbies, yet H2B has his own DJ business...
I want to do something and have something that I enjoy doing, but H2B is refusing to let me give it a go :(
Am I really being completely blinkered into thinking I can make a good go at this?

Before you committed yourself you would have to do a full price analysis. I really don't think you could cover your costs changing that little.

I've been looking into starting my own events company and look at the catering side of it too, and you need to be really sure of your numbers before going into anything like this. Like Dove said, it doesn't sound like you'll be able to cover your costs for so little. Sit down and add up all the costs of catering, not just ingredients but also things like delivery, presentation, advertising etc etc etc. Only then can you be sure you can afford it, and then you can go to your H2B with a well thought out proposition!
