Maybe have a little poem in the invite stating the dress code etc?

I'm not a fan of hats either but for some reason people think its the thing to do at a wedding.

It stems from the days a lady (from the queen down to a prostitute) would never enter a Church with her head uncovered.

Now its a competition between Mothers who has the biggest!

But just say you want peope to be comfortable and able to see.

I hadn't thought about this but honestly, if people want to wear a hat then I'm not going to tell them that they can't because that's their own personal choice and a lot of the thoughts we've had about our wedding are in making all our guests as comfortable and happy with the day as we will be - and I know for a fact that Steve's gran and mum, who both dress "properly" to all occasions would be greatly offended if we told them no hats.

my H2H completely agrees with no hats his is 6ft7" and gets trapped above them so cant hear much. I prefer fasinators. So I was thinking of saying to a few people if they want to wear hats it fin but just in the church!!

I think hats look good, and it's what mum's dream of wearing on the wedding day!
I will be letting people wear whatever they want to my wedding. I want them to feel like they can dress up and enjoy themselves, on the other side, if they want to be more casual thats fine too : )

I think if someone told me not to wear a hat to their wedding I wouldn't go lmao!!
Can you not just ask people to take them off during the ceremony (the only reason I can think of is you want everyone to see whats going on)?? I think its a bit rude to tell people what they can and can't wear lol. Think about it this way....most people will be buying a new outfit to attend your wedding and no doubt will be spending a pretty penny they wouldn't be spending otherwise so just go on, afford them the luxury of a hat for the day ;) lol xx

The tradition of ladies wearing hats to a wedding is from the days where a woman always wore a hat to church, and as most weddings were performed in church then a woman would therefore be wearing a hat. As a wedding was a special occasion, they would wear their best hat (if they were luckily enough to have more than one that is.)
