My mum wants me to wear a white dress. I'm worried I'm not going to look good. I don't have a tan and dont want to look pale and ghost like. I don't want to upset her though. It's so embarrassing going wedding dress shopping as she keeps complaining there's not many white dresses and is spoiling the fun of it all.

Clare the decision is entirely yours. I wore ivory, and a lot of brides do. Listen to what the staff in the bridal stores say, they're best placed to advise.

Let's try again...
You wear what you want and don't let anyone else tell you any different! You're the one getting married, not your mum, and you need to feel 100% comfortable with the dress you choose. If white isn't your colour then your mum should recognise that. However, maybe she does think that white looks best on you? As EC said, listen to the advice from the assistants in the store as they have done this 100000 times. Ultimately though you you need to feel happy and comfortable and your mum should respect this.
I'm wearing a "cafe" colour which is basically a very warm ivory as I found the colour more flattering on me xx

I had the same thing about being pale, I'm redhead so naturally very pale, and I knew white would just wash me out. I had a pale ivory with champagne train which worked really well to give that warm touch to it.

I'm really pale too and I did try on a white dress and it totally washed me out. Maybe try one on with your mom and express how much you dislike the colour. Then try another colour dress on in the same style and explain how much better it makes you look.
White is the traditional and maybe that's why she wants you to wear it. When she see's it on you she may feel different.
It is your day and you need to be comfortable and happy. You need to wear you want to.
My dress is a champagne colour and looks so much better on me

Try a white dress on to appease her and then go for what every colour you feel most comfortable in. You might be surprised! I was
I was adamant I was having an ivory dress as I'm also pale and hate wearing white and tried a white dress on to appease my MIL. Loved the dress and they had exactly the same dress in Ivory as a sample so tried that on too. the dress didnt look half as good in ivory and I actualy ended up ordering the White dress.
At least if You try a white one then you can say you have

Has she seen you in both ivory and white? I watched a programme once where mum wanted white, but once she put on an ivory dress, mum changed her mind.

Agree with all of the above. Think you need to ask her why she is so adamant that you get a white dress, then you could more easily explain your side of things to her.

Ivory is far more popular because 99.9% of brides don't look washed out in it. I did ask bridal stores I went into about even trying white and they said they hardly stock any because people just don't buy them so it's not worth their while.
Ultimately though it's your choice as to what you are comfortable wearing on the day, don't let anyone pressure you into a dress colour or style you don't like.

If you are struggling to buy one in from a bridal shop with the lead time why not look at outlet shops, you take it home that day.
