    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had encountered problems with guests attending your wedding on a week day?

I was looking to see when the 10th anniversary of when we met landed and it turns out it is a Tuesday. Do you think this is just going to be a pain in the bum for everyone? On the plus side it is the Tuesday after Easter Monday so maybe people would have holidays booked for that week anyway.

    Thanks,
    Emma x

If it was someone I was close with i would book the time off work with no issue, if it was a distant relative then I would struggle to as my spare holiday days are limited. We went for a weekend but only because we both work in family businesses and so two businesses would need to be stopped for a full day which isn't viable.

Thanks Nat, our budget wouldn't stretch to distant relatives anyway ;) As you say if it's someone important to me I would book the time off no problems.
We're still throwing ideas around but I've never been to a wedding on a Tuesday and just wondered if it was strange!

It all depends on peoples jobs really, especially as some don't allow people to take time off around Easter and Christmas (especially in retail) as it is their busiest times. We are having a Saturday wedding because my mum is a teacher and my dad works away during the week so we needed a weekend to make sure they could stay. You just have to remember that if you do it on a weekday if people have to travel it will more than likely mean taking the Monday and Wednesday off work too, and some people may not be prepared or able to do that. If I were you I would think about the guests you would really want there, find out if they would be able to do it and then decide from there :) xxx

you just need to take into account that it is a week day and people may struggle for childcare if their kids arent invited, or will hve to take a day off school if they arent still on their holidays, if it were this year, mine would be due back in on that day.

Also, people may actually struggle to get that time off as people tend to want to book that time off just to 'make a week of it' so plenty of notice, if you went for that, would be the best bet

i dont always think its fair for people to say the people who will care will come, because its just not that simple sometimes - even with plenty of notice

i dertainly dont think its strange, and im not trying to pi$$ on your chips, but it can make things abit tricky xx

We have booked our wedding for a thursday and it turned out to be the same day my mum and dad got married (which i didnt know until i told my mum the date), if people care enough about you they will book the day off, we are only having close friends and family so shouldnt have many problems.

Just remember as long as you are both their that is all that matters. xxx

I think if you give them more notice than you normally would then you should be ok some people with children may struggle and some people may not be allowed week days off etc
We were going to have a Friday but our venue said the Saturday was the same price so changed to a Saturday

My sister went to a wedding on a Tuesday and she had to take the Tuesday and Wednesday off work...she said he atmosphere at the evening do was a bit flat...we are getting married on a Friday so people will have to take the day off work but they can make a long weekend of it...i think if you are going for a midweek wedding Mon, Fri and possibly Thurs work best but thats just me.

Obviously if the date is really important to you then i guess that overrides it but maybe be prepared that people will be thinking about work the next day and leave earlier/not drink etc...that said I would defo still go to a wedding on a Tuesday if it was a good friend and i wouldn't let work the next day hold me back but i'm a bit of a party animal! xx

We got engaged on our 8th anniversary and told our closest that the wedding would be in 2 years on our 10th anniversary which falls on a Thursday which meant that in early Jan this year (before the invites went out) we were being informed that people had already booked the day off and some had booked longer (OH's bosses are actually closing the business from the Wednesday until the following Monday). So far we've only had one couple decline as they've already used up their annual leave, not knowing that the wedding would be on a weekday, but they were friends of OH's parents so we're not too upset they won't be there. We've given invites to people who will have under 5's at the time of the wedding and so far they're OK to come but we've not yet invited the distant relatives with children at school so we're expecting a couple more people saying no, but again we didn't give them notice as we're not that close so won't be too upset if they can't be there (don't know if my Mum mentioned anything to them though so they may surprise us with a yes).
One of my BMs will have to leave during the reception for work the following day but we'll have got all the cake cutting and things out of the way before then so she'll only be missing a little dancing and because her OH doesn't drink she can still enjoy the day with a few drinks herself and then have him drive her home.
Since the day we got engaged (and even now things are booked) we keep getting people (mainly my mother) asking why we're not moving it to the Saturday as 'surely its close enough' but the exact date is just far too important to us and so far with the accepted RSVPs we've had, the date could come around tomorrow and we'd be surrounded with our nearest and dearest.
If you want to keep your anniversary too then work out who would mean the most to you to be there and give them as much notice as possible so they can work out their annual leave/childcare around your date.

I've been to two week day weddings and both finished early as people had work the next day, personally I could never get married on a weekday but it is cheaper if you do and the people who love you will make the effort, just be prepared for it finishing early xxxx

Thanks everyone, we're still throwing ideas about so we haven't got our heart set on that date we just thought it would be nice for it to be tied up so to speak on that date. :)

We're lucky that none of our family work in retail but I guess the kids possibly not being on school holidays could be a problem for some of the people we would want to invite (including the kids).

I understand that a Saturday would be a lot easier for everyone. Hopefully we can find a venue that isn't too expensive for a Saturday if it comes to it as we're hoping to stick to a budget of £5000 at the most. xx

Ours is on a Tuesday as well; mum originally said that being on a weekday might make it awkward for people to attend but we choose a weekday for a reason. One was that we are getting married on the 12th May 2015 (the date we met; got engaged e.t.c) so an important date for us which happened to fall on a Tuesday and the deal we have got for our venue is only during the week as well.

Personally we are going to send out invites way in advance so people can book that day off if they are coming to the ceremony and breakfast; if they want to be there then I'm sure they will be :)

It will depend on people's work.

People may take the day off but will leave early so they can get up the next day for work. My sister had a Thursday wedding and I've been to one of hubby's friends weddings on a Thursday. Both weddings people did leave early because whilst they were happy to take one day off for the big day, they didn't want to waste more annual leave for the following day and so left early to get home at a decent hour and get sleep. So by 10pm more than half the guests had left, whereas at our wedding (Saturday wedding) only a handful of people left before 11pm (older guests who's stamina just isn't what it used to be but when they're in their 80's we could totally understand), everyone else stayed until midnight and wanted it to go on even later.
