Firstly... you have PLENTY of time. You have your venue out of the way so now the next thing to check of the list is a photographer. They tend to get booked up quite far in advance but TAKE YOUR TIME. You want to make sure you get the right person for you. When you do find the right one the most crucial questions to ask are about the way they work, will the contract include feeding them and what is their contingincies if they cannot make it on the day (this will rarely happen but I've seen it happen to brides on here)

You don't have to have a colour scheme, you can do what you like. I love Alice in Wonderland and this is my theme so we don't have anything set. I have people nark at me now and again saying "You can't have that because it will clash with that!" my answer "well, we're all mad here"

Have fun and remember to haggle. My OH and I got £600 off our venue :D

also enter into lots of magazine competitions. I won a £100 voucher to spend on D3ssy bridal accessories and have used it to buy some jewellery and kit out my BMs

    Hi DanielleR5239,
I'm getting married in July 2016 too. We have our venue booked, they have their own caterers who we have to use, so that sorted that part out :-) the next thing we did was find a photographer - we found ours during the wedding fayre held at the venue so he knows his way around. I have a rough idea regarding colours/theme but nothing decided for definite yet. Not been to look at any dresses yet, will prob start early next year. I've learnt that there are no right or wrong ways to do it, just make sure you are happy and you both end up with exactly what you want and not what the family want etc ;-) good luck.x

Hi Danielle - welcome and congrats :)

I get married June 2016 and so far we have booked the venue, registrar, photographer, DJ and harpist and are currently trying to arrange transport. These are the things we consider the 'bigger' things and wanted to get them booked and secured as early as possible. The planning is on hold at the moment as we don't want to organise EVERYTHING too soon; I know how much my taste has changed in the the last 2 years, so wouldn't want to organise all the detail-y bits now to find I hate them in another 2 years time!

We are going to the National Wedding Show this year in October where we will probably get lots of ideas, so again, we didn't want to sort out a lot of the detail-y bits before this as we don't want to come away thinking DAMN, we should have done something different.

We will probably resume planning properly in the new year. Will start looking at dresses properly and trying them on around Easter time next year and will look to get my bridesmaids dresses about 6-8 months before the day.

It's good to be organised and have a plan, so you know how much money you are spending and keeping with your budget etc. but there's definitely no rush to get everything done now. Spend time looking at lots of ideas and getting quotes :) x

I am July 2016 bride also. I got engaged march last year and booked our venue in June of last year. The following month I booked my flowers the following month I won chair covers and sashes and £100 off a cake so booked that in September. In November I ordered my dress I booked my band in March the humanist in April and today I booked the photographer. We bought his kilt last year also and I have chosen but yet to order bridesmaid gowns. Don't get swamped pick one or two things you want to concentrate on and deal with those first before booking something else x
