Sounds lovely Amanda.. doesn't matter where you go, as long as you both love it and get to spend some quality time together! We may have to sacrifice our Maldivian/somewhere else pricey dream and go to somewhere like Greece instead. Plenty of time ahead of you to have the 'holiday of a lifetime' x
I keep thinking we'll end up doing the same Floss! X

I suggested this to H2B the other day as I just don't think we can afford such an expensive honeymoon after all were paying for the wedding, but there are so many nice places to visit and nice luxury hotels I don't care we go as long as its hot and we get to spend time together xx

We booked mexico in the end and we're stopping at New York for a couple of days on the way home :D We get married on the friday and fly out on the monday, I can't wait! I've heard of the tradition that the honeymoon is meant to be kept a secret from everyone else but not the bride. I don't know if I'd like not knowing. I think either way it would be amazing but I like knowing as I can think about it lol

The honeymoon is the only thing we've disagreed about!
He wanted Las Vegas. I wanted Maldives.
We were looking a 2 stop Hawaii/Vegas as a compromise but....
We came across Bali
And we both said yes to it immediately. Not booked yet but looks like we'll go in September for 10 nights.

Not booked yet but we have discussed and are both agreed we will go on a family break (h2b, our little girl and me) to Disney land immediately after the wedding, only for 2/3 nights but it will be perfect both for us (Disney land is my fav place on earth) and our little princess, as us getting married is more about me having the same name as h2b and our LO than anything else, h2b and I know we will be together forever regardles, but getting married means that we are truely a family in all ways. Then h2b and I will book a couple of weeks away just the 2 of us in the summer when there is more choice of (cheaper) hot destinations!!

We were going to go to Florida but it is becoming really expensive and I know my family want a big holiday together in a few years so we will hold out on that one. I came across all inclusive at Dom. Republic and Barbados but h2b doesn't want to go there. Suggested Rome and Paris but nope doesn't want to go there either. So I racked my brains and came up with New York.. He agreed he wants to go there so looks like we are going there for about a week! Phew! :)

Just realised I hadn't added mine to this thread! :-O
OH and I are taking 3 weeks to Orlando with a weekend trip down to Key Largo in the middle of it. We have, as of last night, booked our park tickets and we have the first 2 weeks hotel stay booked at the Marriott Cypress Harbour. Still to book the Hampton Inn in Key Largo and we're holding out to either stay at Marriott Sabal Palms or Marriott Lakeshore Reserve for the final week in Orlando. Best mans family is sorting out our Orlando accomodations for us as a wedding present through their timeshare. Just waiting on those last two hotels coming up for offers so we can book one of the other. Prefer Lakeshore reserve though.
Also sorted out the car hire and was told to register as a preferred member with @vis because you automatically get an upgrade on arrival. OH plans to also blag that we're on honeymoon so we may get the soft-top mustang lol here's hope'n
So far we have been told/given 2 wedding gifts. Money from OHs Paternal Uncle to exchange into dollars and a Dolphin swim from his other Maternal Uncle and Aunt. We have a feeling his parents (really his Mum lol) might be planning on sorting us out an upgrade on our flight seats which would be awesome.

We were thinking we'd have to wait until after the wedding to book our honeymoon due to finances (and we're going to be asking for monetary contributions from our guests), but we've been looking at honeymoons today and pleasantly surprised to see there are some really good deals around... so now we're stumped.
Do we book something now and relax knowing we have a honeymoon sorted and can look forward to it, or do we wait?
Pros for booking now - more time to give notice for time of work, something to look forward to and can relax knowing it's sorted, can go really quickly after the wedding which is what we ideally wanted.
Cons for booking now - might put lots of pressure on us financially. We can secure with a £500 deposit which we should be able to manage, FIL has offered to put £1k towards the honeymoon if he can save it in time.. but we will have to pick up the rest of the cost at the same time that everything else for the wedding would need to be paid for (settling up with suppliers etc). Or we can ask guests if they'd be willing to contribute early - is that a little cheeky???
Pros for booking after - less financial pressure, might be 'exciting' not knowing where we're going, could get a good last min deal Cons for booking after - harder to get time off work due to notice, might not necessarily go where we want to go, might have to wait a couple of months...
Help?!?! Is it worth waiting until the January sales - I don't know how that affects prices? Because the summer 2016 holidays are new to the market, is that why the deals are so good and competitive?

It really depends on you. Which would be the least stressful?
Only thing I would recommend though when booking your holiday is try and go directly with whoever you're flying with. I wish we booked directly with Virgin as they tend to be really good to honeymooners with their upgrades for flights and accomodations but we booked through a travel agent so we're not 100% sure what we will see. I know, sounds cheeky to assume this but hey my thinking is, we're spending thousands on this wedding to damn right I want some freebies and upgrades lol
We managed to get a few cheeky freebies with Universal so far and apparantly our best man has organised something at our accomodation but is keeping quiet about what.

Flossie it may be worth booking now as the prices are really good at the mo and like you said it will give more notice to book time off work and you will get to go where you want and have what you want. It will be a weight off knowing you have something booked xx

I personally wouldn't ask guests for any donations early as it sounds a bit cheeky. There may be some close friends/family that may be happy to though if they are quite involved in your planning?
I was quite disappointed we couldn't book anything in advance because I wanted it to carry on to the next exciting thing to keep the 'wedding mode' going. Was more due to the timing tough that ultimately stopped us. I can honestly say though I'm glad we've done it after as although I've had a couple of down days after the wedding, I've got a honeymoon to look forward to in 108 days!
We saved £600 when we went to book just for a date we hadn't considered because we had a wider option for dates. You can't guess what your guests will contribute, and got a few hundred more than we were expecting, which of course helped when it came to booking, and even location :) One last thing (feel like I'm rambling), when we went to the travel agents, we said our budget was about £2500, but as we had 4 months to wait we were willing to go up to £3000 as we'd have extra time save the difference :) x

If you can book now then go for it. It's good for peace of mind. We paid off our flights and accomodation when we booked so now all we have to think about is spending money and tickets for things which is what we have a honeyfund page for :)

I think I'm going to wait until th0m@s cook release theirs next week and have a look at what they've got. Also test the waters with family and try and gage their opinion on asking for contributions early - it is only close family coming to the wedding anyway so I can't see they would mind

We've decided we want to go to Jamaica. We've found an absolutely stunning hotel and we've kind of both got our hearts set on it at the moment. Can't get a price for it at the moment but I see Th0m@s C00k have it and their summer 2016 holidays are released tomorrow. It's going to be over budget - but seeing a price will help us decide whether we should book it now or wait and potentially get it cheaper during a sale nearer the time.
OH cut someone's hair last week who has just been there with his partner and said it is absolutely stunning, so it helps having a recommendation.
