I am planning on booking my venue by the end of the week but know that I can't book the registrar until 25th sept for a 2013 wedding. I'm not sure whether to send out save the date magnets out after I have booked my venue or the registrar?? We are planning on having the wedding on 25/9/13 - its on a weds and when schools start back, so I am highly doubting I am going to have much competition for a registrar on my preferred date.

is that right? we had no problem and they told me that they even had bookings for 2014. must be different councils different rules. it was giving notice you can't do for a year b4 your date.

I think you'll be able to provisionally book your date Banks, but it's usually a year before that you can finalise the date properly. I think you'd be ok to send out your save the date magnets once you've booked your venue (and pencilled in the date with the registrar). We sent out our magnets about 16 months before the wedding - but that was because we were getting married away from home, so it gave guests time to organise accommodation, transport and time off work etc.
Thanks for your advise ladies. I rang my registry office this afternoon and the lady on the phone said I couldn't provisionally book my date until 26th sept as it couldnt be anymore than a year in advance and then they would set and date for me and H2B to go in to finalise the details etc.

what registry office is that banks because i provisonally booked my date and time and have it in writing in december and that was 19 months before my wedding in july 2013

It was bristol city council. I had a look last night and it said that once you had where and when you want to get married to ring them and that what they told me. Im so confused! lol. x

For save the dates i would wait until the date is guaranteed before wasting any funds on save the dates, you may also confuse guests if have to send out twice. As long as save the dates are sent before the start of the wedding year (really so people can book holidays around the event) i think thats fine. If you are going to send them this september for next september thats plenty of advance although i bet your really keen to tell the world now! i totally understand that! How about a wedding facebook page for you and the groom so you can at least tell your closest friends? Thats free and gets the message out there without spedning anything yet xx

Thats strange! We booked our registra a year and a half before our wedding! We have to give notice in a few weeks.

I'm getting married in August and sent mine out at xmas just past there. There seems to wide variety of when people send them, I suppose just send them when you're ready too. Worse case senceario is that you have to change the date (Which I highly doubt due to your reasons stated above) then you can just amend the actual invites to the new date.

Thanks for all the advice. I just cant wait to tell everyone but might wait until after my soon-to-be sister-in-laws wedding. A facebook page sounds like a really good idea gemma, never thought of that. : )

I'd definitely wait until you set a date and venue, you'd be wasting money if you had to send two lots out! I usually recommend my customers to send them out around a year before x

We have booked the date with our venue but cant book our registrar until 1 year before our date. Thanks very much for the advice iheartyou. : ) xx

We're sending ours after we give notice, at the 12 month mark. I think it a year is plenty of time for people to indeed, save the date lol.

We haven't looking into ours properly yet but apparently we have to give notice twice because we live in Rugby (under warwickshire council) but getting married in Manchester so under a diff council! is this right!? xXx
Got together 18th December 2008
Engaged 19th November 2011
Getting married 20th June 2014
Venue is Manchester Utd Football Ground!!!

I think so because if I wanted to get married at thornbury castle, I would of had to register with the south gloucestershire council and then the bristol city council.xxx
CommentAuthorJillybean
Do you have to pay twice then? x

Hi, I have received Save the date magnets a year in advance. I think that gives people chance to book holidays etc.
Where have you bought your save the date magnets from? I haven't bought mine yet! xx
CommentAuthorBanks

@zoe, there is a website called specialdayinvitions, this is where I have found my stationery from. I can post the link on your wall if you like? : ) x

Hi Jillybean, we're having a church wedding so have to have our banns read in 2 different churches (we live in Bristol but are getting married in Liverpool) - so we paid twice for our banns to be read - 36 in the Bristol Church and for the Liverpool one including the ceremony, verger, bell ringing, organist and choir (if we want it) would be 511 total.
