    hi again everyone :)

I have bought my wedding dress off the rack and i am absolutely in love with it. The thing is, it was slightly too big when I got it and I have lost weight since then (and i am hoping to lose a little more) I am thinking it may need to be brought in a size and a half. First of all does this sound possible? and also how soon or how late should I leave it to get it altered? My wedding is september so at an end of the july/august rush.

    TIA x

I got married at the start of October and started on the alterations towards the end of August, but it really depends on what needs doing, if it was big and you've lost weight and intend to lose more, I'd start earlier so that the seamstress has time to do it all. I only needed the bust taking in a bit and a bit off the length.

I would probably try to look into possible seamstresses in the area with about 3/4 months away just so you can give them the time they need. I'm having to do the same with my dress, my sister did too and a local dress shop arranged it which was nice because we could go there and see her try it on when it was finished for a proper dress viewing, so I'm going to go to the same shop in about March. Might be worth going to local shops near you to see if they do similar?

There shouldn't be any problem with taking the dress in, they'll take it in at the side seams usually. I'll need mine taken in but I'm hoping to lose even more, so I'm hoping they might do it as near to my date as possible. Will let you know what they say if you want x

I'm going to have the same issue as was planning on going W3d28e to get my dress. I assume the seamstress may know best so I'd look into where you will be going to have them done and see what they suggest especially if it is a busy time of the year for them x

8 weeks is normally the shortest amount of time to have alterations done, but I would recommend looking between 6-3 months. Wedding dresses can be altered a maximum of two sizes each way so I wouldn't worry about that, ask the shop where you brought your dress from and they can point you in the right direction :)

    thanks you everyone!

the dress is a zip up, sweetheart, ballgown. It does need taking up a little bit as well as it is too long.

Kathleen I got mine from w3d2b3 and they have some beautiful dresses, mine is my dream dress!

As it is still 9 months until the wedding i think i will wait another 3 months then make contact with the seamstress that was recommended by w3d2b3 and see what they advise :)

    thanks again x
