    Hi,

We are getting married next February, my junior bridesmaid will be 11 and a half years old by then, when would you suggest shopping for her dress?

At that age I am nervous about buying one in the next few months and by the time of the wedding she will have grown and it will be too short/not fit properly. Do I buy a bigger dress and then if needs be it can be altered? I am not keen on buying two dresses as the budget won't allow for it and I won't be able to return one of the dresses months after buying it.

    What have other brides done?

    Many thanks!

Id buy it closer to the time. If shes anything like my daughter she has sudden growth spurts, one week all her clothes fit the next shes outgrown everything.

Definitely wait in case she has a growth spurt. You could even look in the January sales and get a bargain. X

Definitely wait as my step daughter is 8 (will be 9 when we get married) but in the last year she has just shot up, just last month I had to buy her age 10-11 jeans as she needs them in the length but have had to take the waist in as she's skin and bone. We get married next June and I won't be getting her dress till about march. Xxx

I got mine about 5-6 months before the day but ordered them just slightly larger so if the needed adjusting taking in would be easier than out. In the end they all fitted perfectly

If you wanted to get the dress now you could always get it bigger and then if needs be get it taken in. If not you could hold off until January and you might pick up a bargain in the sales xx

Same problem, making all my bridesmaids dresses so need to allow time for that too. I'm going with a pattern that allows for some elastic or adjustable fit, like a lace-up back with a modesty panel and elasticated skirt band.

My daughter is 11, but she has started to develop and because of this will not fit junior bridesmaid dresses as most go up to a 32inch bust and she is a 34, so have had to get a young adults and get altered, she is in age 14 tops, most junior are quite fitted. So are having straps added to look not so much adult.

Thank you all for your replies! I am going to try and wait as long as possible before buying them.

I too was wondering the same thing... I have a bridesmaid who will be 7. I know kids grow rather fast and was a little concerned. January sales sound like a fantastic idea.

My daughter will be 12 when I get married in March 2018, I was planning on shopping for her next summer. Hoping it will be the right thing to do!

My daughter will be 9 when we get married, but she is so slim. I bought her an age 9 dress despite her being almost 10.
Id say give it a three month space from purchase to your wedding. x
