I noticed a lady on my facebook wall was looking for a photographer less than £500... now to me photography was something i was not scrimping on.

I was just curious what you ladies have scrimped on for your wedding?

Not necessarily scrimped, but went for cheaper option on stationary, I figured at some point it will end up in the bin anyway! All our invites plus information cards cost us around £60 and that's for 110 of each

Just trying to scrimp and haggle on nearly everything - the photographer we are hoping to save on with a family friend being a professional wedding photographer - failing that it would be the one thing i'd pay full wack for!

I have plenty of ideas and not really able to book much yet due to no job, but i think some haggling will be on the cards for everything i want.

We're scrimping on everything too. Not getting a professional photographer, just having guests taking pics. Making our own invites, growing our own flowers, dress from the bay, free venue, buffet for main meal, no DJ will just play our own music on an ipod, making own cake (hopefully). The idea of paying someone £500 for photography fills me with horror, as that it approx one third of our whole budget, so obviously just not a possibility or priority.

We haven't scrimped per se but have gone for less expensive if possible. Using a lady who bakes as a hobby for cake, found a recently qualified photographer who works with his DJ dad for £850 inc video and dj and photos, my artist friend is designing and printing the invites, I wasnt bothered about what kind of car so just went with a decent looking one from a reputable company which was cheapish. Hairdresser is doing hair and two trials for £50 and I am doing my own make up. But then other things are quite expensive like my dress which parents are paying for etc.

We didn't scrimp but just looked for deals and cheaper options on the things that were less important. For instance, we didn't rate chair covers or favours as important so didn't have them. The money was put to other things, such as the honeymoon etc. We just couldn't see the point of paying out for the most expensive option when there wasn't much difference in service/quality (sometimes you pay for the name or designer etc).

Anything that has involved DIY is what we have "scrimped" on so table decs, invites, post box, table plan and any kind of stationary really. Like most, we have looked for deals too. Our photo booth including 3 members of staff, props, back drop, online gallery, disc of all photos including the photo editing for just under £350.

I wouldn't call it scrimping, but I'm definitely focusing my spending on the things that are important to me and not those things I don't think are important. For example the biggest spend will be food and alcohol, but I'll be printing my own invites and wedding stationary to save money. I'll be sending online save the dates.

Elderflower champagne - elderflower heads, lemon, white vinegar and sugar! Left it to ferment in a bucket for a couple of weeks then bottled it for a couple more weeks and amazingly it worked!

It was cars for me. I was quoted around £750 for a car for the bridal party + another for me and my dad. I only live 10 minutes from the venue so instead I booked a bentley limo to take us all for £250 for 2 & a half hours. My dad has a lovely car & i'm still.in two minds whether to put ribbons on it & we can go in that although not sure if I would need to ask someonw to drive us. I'm also doing my own makeup but that's because I don't like other people doing it. I have a bit of a.makeup obsession & did my friend's wedding for her & 8 bridesmaids so figure I can cope with my own.

We haven't scrimped but I've done a lot lot lot of research to make sure we've got the best prices..
My dress, photographer and rings are the 3 things I wouldn't scrimp on.. We had a budget for the photographer but we don't have a budget for our rings..
Lucky my mum bought my dress.. I do feel guilty though as we didn't know the price before I fell in love with it.. I wouldn't have tried it on if I did know the price first lol xxx

Ive done the same as most, best advice i was given was dont take the first price given.

I had £1200 quid knocked off my wedding dress, squeezed half aa bottle of wine per guest. Bought bridesmaid dresses 15 each on the bay.

Our friends own a furniture store and said we could borrow whatever we needed.

Photographer i dont mind paying a few hundred for.

i got bm dresses from e of bay for £30 each! and also hubby's ring we only paid about £70 for because i thought he would loose it or not wear it (not used to wearing jewellery) but he wears it everyday and it's looking abit shabby now after only 4 months of marriage! so getting a new palladium one so ending up paying £300 odd for his ring instead! my MOH did my makeup as shes amazing and my aunt did my hair as she was once a hairdresser! i don't think i scrimped on anything else though.

I got my photographer for £495, It was half price as i booked on the day at a wedding fair he is brilliant and has done well over 500 weddings. I have made loads of diy, I have made my own table plan, My flowers and the bridesmaid bouquets, mens buttonholes and started a clay bride and groom and some other bits. Also got place name cards and mens wedding socks so cheap. I got my ring cushion for half price. My bm's tiaras jewerelly were like £2 each(pics in my album) And 2 out of 3 of my bm's are hairdressers so thats great. Other then that I have only booked what we have both wanted. The venue/food/drinks we wanted was expensive but its amazing and fits our theme perfect and even then it includes h/m suite dj and some1 who can do toastmaster. My dress is also expensive but again its what i wanted, I would have paid double lol i had to have it, And my cake was another, When we see it we knew it was perfect for our venue and theme so had to get it. We also get a big wishing well post box for £10 hire as we ordered our cake from her which is a bargain, as someone else wanted £30 hire for one which was really small compared to ours, And what you can buy in j*f for like £8.99 at one point lol. I think you just know at the time if something is right for both of you and if its worth it or not. Mine all seem to just fall into place. I had always planned and saved for my own transport as my quotes 2 years ago were coming in at £2000+ but i found it this year at half price so i was way under budget on that. I was trying to make my own invites as i really dont want to have to pay some1 loads for them but i have had 3 printers now and cant get 1 of them to work so annoying. I think when booking early you get much better deals as well.

I wouldn't say I scrimped, I just cut corners and found money saving tips.

My photographer was free, my aunt and husband's uncle do photography as a hobby so they were an easy choice for the photos, they did an awesome job. His uncle also recorded the ceremony, confetti throwing and evening dancing. I made the stationary which meant I only spent a fraction compared to buying them from a company. MIL made the cake, another massive cut. We didn't pay for dancing lessons.

We are not having wedding cars or any transport. Also, we are having a small intimate wedding with only 25 guests - not to save pennies but because we wanted it that way.

i havent scrimped on anything but have tried to get the best deals that i can, e.g. 10% off here and there. our parents have helped a little with the dress and photographer and flowers so its meant that we can have nearly everything that we want. if i had another £1000 then we would have everything that we want e.g. fireworks, ice cream trike and harpist/pianist for the wedding breakfast. but they arent essentials and will be last minute spends if we find the cash x

This is my second time round and I got £400 off my wedding dress as it was the same shop I got my first wedding dress from PMSL!!! Gonna do my own invitations, table plan, order of service etc. Got my table centrepieces off ebay for £20 for 6! The chairs at our reception venue are quite nice so I'm not going to bother with chair covers. As our wedding is at the end of April I'm hoping we'll be able to haggle a bit as it's just outside of the start of the wedding season. i've also found a photographer for £500 and their photo's look brilliant. I'm also going to have just car for me, my dad, my mum and my two daughters.

I have to say i have really enjoyed this experience it has been largely stress free, we went for a nice package on the food and drink and i am hoping it all go's without a hitch.
