    Hi everyone,

Little bit of a background about me, my partner and I had a miscarriage 2 1/2 years ago, we tried to get pregnant again but no luck so we had IVF. Because of my old age (41), they only retrieved 2 eggs and only 1 survived and I fell pregnant. But I then lost the baby. We tried again last November and 2 eggs again retrieved but neither worked. Had a tough few months trying to get my head around not having children and guess what, I have just found out I am pregnant... naturally!! It's still very very early days and I am even petrified of writing this as the only people that know are my partner and myself. We are so scared of jinxing it! Anyway, we are getting married May 2017 and I was due to start looking at dresses (3 appointments booked) for March and April. IF this pregnancy works, I won't be 12 weeks until beginning of April. What do I do about my dress?! I am due 15th October, that gives me 7 months to lose weight after the baby, but to be honest with you, I would be quite happy to be a larger bride and have a bundle of joy in my arms!

So the question I am asking is, what do I do about my dress. Try and get it in March/April before a bump really comes? xx

Congratulations on your news and all the best for the pregnancy, I do hope everything goes just perfectly for you xx

I would probably stick with your original plan, go and try on some dresses and have a chat with the people in the dress shop about your situation - they should be best placed to advise what would be best. But there is absolutely no harm in trying dresses on and seeing what suits you etc.

I guess I'm just concerned that if I leave it until after the baby, it may be too late as its probably the last thing I would want to do after giving birth! xx

Firstly, congratulations, wishing you all the luck this little angel stays put.

I think if you go for your appointments, you will be that little bit larger than normal as things would have grown a little. You can try dresses on, if you fall in love, order it, then it gives you incentive to lose weight if need be on the other side.

    Good luck.

Also remember certain dresses take quite a long time to come in, so you don't want to be leaving everything until the last minute and panicking about your dress not coming in in time xx

You could possibly order it the size above your size, if you go back to your weight it will be easier to take it than out.

So I assuming it would be best to order it maybe one size larger than I would be at 12 weeks and that gives me enough time after the baby to maybe lose a little bit of weight? Sorry for all the questions, I had everything planned out, started slimming world and was losing weight and now everythings all up in the air.... a fab way to be though but I am a bit of a control freak lol xx

I would carry on and go to the appointments. It gives you an idea of what you are looking for and if you do find the one then I would say there's no harm in getting it then. The shop assistants will be able to advise you as they will have seen this before x

The things is my mum and Matron of Honour will be with me and they don't know and won't know until the 12 week scan so maybe I will call the bridal shops beforehand and just warn them!

    Congrats!
I personaly would go to your appointments! find your dress and order it in a size bigger than you are now.

A dress can always be taken in but it cannot always be let out.
A good seamstress can take the dress down 2 to 3 sizes easily without it looking altered and a realy good seamstress can rebuild a dress if you need it taken down more than 3 sizes (although it will obviously cost more).

Congratulations, I wish you all the best with your wonderful news. Try to relax where you can.

It would be good to go to see what kind of styles you like so even if you don't choose your dress that day then you can have a good idea what you're looking for. It does sound like a good idea to speak to the shop beforehand to explain the situation. X

Congratulations, I hope all goes smoothly this time. It will be a while before you have any kind of bump, so I would keep the appointments you've got, but once you settle on a dress, ask the shop to order a size bigger than you need, just in case. You probably won't need to tell them you're pregnant when you're just trying on, unless they're pulling the dress uncomfortably tight. Once you've chosen one though you'll probably need to say then. You should find you lose the weight though. One of my bridesmaids got pregnant and had her baby in May, with a wedding in August. We got her measured for her dress as soon as we knew, before any significant weight gain, and then ordered a size bigger just to be on the safe side. As it was she was easily back to her pre-pregnancy size by the time of the final fitting.

As a fellow person going through the struggles of infertility & IVF... words cannot express the true joy & excitement I feel for other people when I hear lovely & amazing stories like your own, about falling pregnant naturally! Massive congratulations to you & Hubby to be! I wish you both all the best for the upcoming future.

With regards to your dress, I went dress shopping in September / October last year, knowing I'd be starting my first round of IVF treatment in November. Sadly my IVF wasn't successful but if it had been I would have had 3 months between baby being born & getting married. I was upfront with every store I visited & they all gave me the same advise. They advised me to buy the dress early to not avoid any disappointment in not being able to get the dress I wanted in time if I left it until after the baby being born & also as most ladies on here have already suggested in a size larger than they measure you to be.

I hope this helps a little xx

Congratulations!! I have every single thing crossed for you.

If it helps at all, I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks before the wedding dress I had already ordered arrived. When measured, I came up smack bang between a 10 and a 12 so ordered a 12. I tried the dress on at home at 11 weeks and a few days and it fit perfectly in the 12.

So if you get measured between 2 sizes you might find actually that you're fine to just get the larger of the two rather than going for a whole size up, but if you get measured at a specific size then 1 size up should be more than enough as 7 months is plenty of time to get any alterations you might need done if that's necessary once baby has arrived xx

Oh wow huge congratulations to you - I have everything crossed it works out for you.

All I have to add on top of what is already said is perhaps mention to the people in the shop (in the fitting room if you family are unaware) of the situation and they can help you pick dresses which are possible to alter easily i.e. no heavy beading/complicated style pattern (such as asymmetrical styles can be hard to alter). And as the ladies said, order one size up as it is much easier to take in.

Finally, relax, enjoy the appointments, don't put too much pressure on yourself (you do have until around 20 weeks until the bump may start to cause a problem with dress fitting, which I guess will be beginning June?) Enjoy pregnancy, spoil yourself and don't worry about the dress fitting post pregnancy - seamstresses are goddesses!

Huge congratulations, I agree with all other ladies, go get a feel for the dresses as last thing you want after having a baby is worrying about a dress at least if you have an idea of what you like your have easier time after, I would also go at about 6 months if you feel up to it as your get a feel of if your still like the dresses plus will be bigger due to bump and might feel differently about the dresses due to shape change but ask the shops as you might find your like a sample dress in which case the time frame of 7 months isn't a problem and most dresses only take 4-6 months so again can go after baby x
