So, we got married 3 months ago and we've already had someone complain because they weren't invited!

Having a conversation recently with my Stepdad and he mentioned that his person had complained to him about a few things (that he doesn't really speak to her partner anymore and they don't do their curry nights etc. They used to be involved with the greyhound walking charity we volunteer for, and she managed the display team for a while, but even though they're both still on the main committee they don't come on the walks now and have their own little 'clique' of friends that they hang out with) and then brought up the fact that they weren't invited to the wedding. He asked her when was the last time that she actually spoke to either me or husband and she said new years day, and before that August time. My Stepdad then went on to explain that if she hasn't spoken to either of us then she shouldn't have expected an invite to the wedding and told a little white lie in that we had to cut the guest list down because of the cost. She went on to tell him that they'd missed the committee meeting in April, which was around two weeks before the wedding, because they hadn't been invited!

I did say when we were making our guest list that she would be one of the people expecting to be invited, but we haven't been friends with her for a long time and she upset hubby at a display team practice when she accused him of not being committed when her buddies had only turned up once and she hadn't told them off. I was working with one of her dogs for a while in the display team because we don't have a dog of our own and spent most of the practices dog-less because she wasn't there!

I suspect that she thinks that we deliberately left them out because quite a few of our good friends are on the committee and got an invite, but it has nothing to do with that. We invited people that are our good friends and have helped and supported us over the years.

We both find it a bit cheeky that she expected to be invited and then complained to somebody else that they weren't!

Agreed, she has some cheek and if she had a problem should have said to you directly not to someone else behind your back. Also she should accept that you can't invite everyone you would if your budget was unlimited!

Gosh, someone's not a green eyed monster are they!! She needs to get a grip and realize that there are better things. People move on and she needs to accept that they weren't a part of that and by complaining 3 months AFTER the wedding to your stepdad, it only makes her come across worse. She's being very childish and immature and sounds like you did absolutely the right thing not inviting her! Hold your head high :) x

Erin, the sad part of it is that we're not really friends with them anymore. They've gone off and done their own thing with their group of friends, so she shouldn't have expected to be included on our guest list. There were plenty of other people that we would have loved to have included. They sent cards and good wishes (one even sent us a small gift) but they didn't make a fuss about not being invited! If we'd got married a couple of years ago they probably would have been included, but unfortunately friendships and relationships can change a lot in that time.

I should add that the conversation with my Stepdad took place a month after the wedding, so she waited all that time before deciding to have a moan to him :o/

Charlotte, she's probably annoyed about something else and like most people doesn't say what they are bugged by and picks on any little thing (no matter how long ago it happened) You're right relationships change and she needs to accept it and move on.

What a cow bag- sounds like she has a complete chip on her shoulder- good thing you didn't invite her- sounds like she isn't a real friend anyway so didn't deserve an invite.

Some people in life really do think they are a Mrs bucket and the world owes them everything

Ignore the stuoid women I say!

While this is really rude of her to complain, I think you should just brush it off (along with her friendship) as there's nothing you can do about it now. You made your decision for your reasons which seem very justified comsidering how your relationship with her changed and she just sounds like a petulent child complaining after an event that she wasn't invited. Boo hoo. You can't be invited to everything and you obsviously have better friends that accepted there was no room for then but sent their best wishes. X
