Hi, I'm Rachel, I'll be getting married at Nanteos Mansion 19th May 2018, absolutely can't wait. Major DIY wedding! My fiancé proposed Dec 23 (our own little christmas) taking me up to a mountain trail that looks over the whole bay I grew up in (Cardigan Bay, Wales). Nice to meet you all! :D

to the uk's number one wedding forum that is UKBRIDE!!
Now that you have found your way here you will get all the help you need in planning your special day and make loads of new friends with the lovely ladies that make this site so special so enjoy every min of it!
Ok now for my modly bit.....
FIRSTLY can I ask you all to read the forum rule thread that is at the top of the page as it not only lets you know all our dos and donts within the forum it also explains all you need to know with regards to our heart and points system as well as a few other need to know bits.
Secondly for all you newbies that havent a clue where to start please read a thread called "a brides checklist" this has an amazing list of exactly what to do and when, when your planning your wedding and is a BRILLANT help! To find this thread go to the search above and type in the thread name as above and the thread will pop up for you :-)
Thirdly when writing a thread please remember to use the search above first because most questions have been asked so there are many threads available that have some brillant tips and advice in them that would be a shame to waste simply because you missed them.
Fourthly alot of you have your profiles restricted. To get the full benefit of the site you need to unrestrict them so the ladies can add you as friends and so they can put links on the wall if your trying to find something as they are not allowed in the forum. To unrestrict your page all you need to do is go to your wedding page by clicking the wedding button above. Then under your wedding countdown clock there is an edit button. Click that and it will take you to a page where all your details are, at the bottom is profile settings so just click that to public and your all set to go! :-)
And lastly JUST ENJOY BEING A MEMBER OF UKB AND PLANNING YOUR WEDDING DAY

Thank you all for the welcome, finding a venue within our budget and our specification is proving a little difficult but I know we'll get there

Good Afternoon everyone,
My now fiancé proposed to me on 8th May 2016 the day before my birthday :D Ive been having a good look round the site which so far I have found very useful tips, also I have already chosen my MOH who only got married two years ago which is helping me out massively the only problem I am finding difficult is setting a budget as we have no idea what sort of venue we want. my question is do we find a venue and go from there or do we set the budget and find a venue to match that? This is all so confusing!! We are thinking of getting married late 2018 near Swindon.
CommentAuthorEmily17
Hi Jane, congratulations. I would set your budget first unless it is very flexible. If not you run the risk of falling in love with somewhere that is way out your budget. I looked at one venue that was £16k and luckily OH didn't like it at all. If not it would have been very hard as our overall budget for everything was £13k maximum with no wiggle room whatsoever.
If you have the funds to build your budget around your venue then its ok to do it the other way round but if not then I wouldn't recommend it xxx
Met in 2009
He proposed Jan 2014
Will become Mrs P 7th October 2017

Hi Jane - I'm in Swindon! :-)
To be honest we did it all a bit backwards. I would say set a rough budget first and then look at venues, however we went to look at our venue first and then decided we could afford it, so booked it. Having said that we knew we couldn't afford somewhere that was going to be tens of thousands so we never bothered considering those sort of places...
Happily married

Hi Jane welcome to the site and congratulations :) Do you have any savings already to put toward the wedding? If not I would work out how much per month you can save and get a budget from that and then look at venues.

We would both like to have a traditional day. I love the idea of a classic wedding without the major price tag we are looking at a budget of 10k-15k as we have large families to cater for however we don't mind DIY elements and I look forward to seeing what we can do together ourselves.

Aww Stacey that sounds lovely, it's very similar to what we are having, church ceremony and then a shindig at a local village hall. We are getting in caterers for food elements but the decorations, help-yourself bar, photo booth and other aspects will all be our own DIY.
I'd really recommend looking at village halls for your reception venues, with a bit of digging you can unearth some real treasures with great grounds and capacity, and they our very reasonable to rent (my sister and I are both having village halls for our venues and both paid less than £500 to rent them from Thursday to Sunday :).

My sister had her own wedding in a village hall and it had such a family feel to it. We have found a nice hotel not far from our village that is not a bad price at all. We have a lot of family traveling to the wedding so I would be happy to have it in a hotel so I know they have somewhere to stop over.
