...apparently this is quite common at irish weddings? Google wedding speeches sweepstakes and you will see what I mean. Anyways, I was thinking what might be quite nice instead is as people arrive ushers give all adults a card for them to make their bet. They have to be handed in to one of them before the speeches. Who ever is closest wins a bottle of champers or something (venue permitting. Don't really want to pay their price for a bottle so they might allow corkage on that one or something)

Thought it might be a bit of fun.. and keep people interested in the speeches! :p

    What do people think?
    xx

Jun ran it by H2be and he thinks it's a good idea too! He also suggested adding to the 'betting card' a space for people's names and any message they might want to leave us eg 'congratulation lots of love great aunt mary' and then we can keep the cards afterwards. :)

I've seen it done and it was fun! They raised quite a bit of money for Mountain Rescue as well (Winner got £20, each bet cost £1, rest went to charity). The ushers went round with lists collecting the money and peoples bets. I was way off!

That had me confused for a bit v43! lol Of course it doesn't have to be champagne/bubbly. It could be some other prize/gift. :)

I've been to a few weddings where they've had this. Often one of the ushers just goes round with a piece of paper and a pint glass to collect the £1 coins. Its quite fun really, and certainly makes the speeches more interesting! :)

Awwww that's a fab idea. We're having cancer research favours so any other money we can raise for charity would be so much fun and a great giggle x
