One of my bridesmaids has the most difficult feet in the world to find nice shoes for. She takes a size 5, but her feet are extremely wide and are off the scale of most shoe manufacturers. The only shoes she can find that fit her comfortably are orthopedic shoes which are nearly all flat, and are not glamorous at all. She is desperate to find lovely shoes that will look good with a bridesmaid dress but will not cripple her. Any tips?

I have the same problem, im a size five but my feet are really wide so usually have to uy a six but then they flop off the back. Have you tried New look, they do a wide fitting shoe range and some of them have even been too wide for me so you might just find something x x x x

I have width EEE feet which are off the scale for most shoe shops - but if I get the next size up I look like I'm wearing someone elses shoes. I've managed to get C width (average width) bridal shoes, and I've been breaking them in by wearing thick socks in them for minimum an hour a day in the house - it's uncomfortable at first but it does work. I've also got some surgical spirit which you can dab on the inside of the shoe at the widest points, then if you wear them with your socks till it dries you can loosen the leather which makes your shoes wider. I've also seen tips which recommend putting a ziplock bag of water into a shoe (double bag it to prevent leakage!) and put them in the freezer till the water has frozen - when you take the ice out the shoe will have expanded a little - but don't try this on satin/lace shoes as it can damage them.

So - short answer, you can get her normal or average wide fit shoes and ask her to break them in a few months before the wedding!

There's some tips there I'd never heard of before! These would definitely be worth thinking about if we cannot find shoes that fit properly to start with. Obviously, finding shoes that fit properly to start with would be preferable, as it seems wrong to have to force shoes to be a different shape than they were made. Thanks for the tips so far though...keep them coming if anybody has any more useful information to share :)

The problem is that the sizing is different in America, and does not translate consistently with EU or UK sizes. Also, the postage to Europe costs a lot and it's not that easy to send them back if they don't fit. There are quite a lot of online companies selling shoes that they claim to be wider, but usually these are not even wide enough, and the main problem is that they just don't really have much that would appeal to ladies under 70, never mind something that would look nice with a BM dress. It's time they started making shoes to fit real feet, and not expecting people to force their feet into badly fitting shoes (rant over).

Its a total pain isnt it. Its not something I've had problems with in the past. There should be more options for shoe sizes though for sure! I am a 6 and a half but most fashion store dont have half sizes either so my feet generally get squeezed into a size 6 :-/

    Hope you can find something

You might want to try dance shoes. My dance teacher recommended them for my London reception when I broke my toe. They much more comfortable than traditional shoes as they are designed to be worn for long periods of time and are padded around the ball of teh foot (where most of us find the pain when wearing high heels).
The beauty of them is they come in very narrow to very wide fittings!!! Oh and for any brides out there that are thinking about it, they're cheaper than bridal shoes too!

Dance shoes...now there's a good idea! I never thought of that. Thanks for that tip HeatherG. Shoe Tailor and Viva La Diva are shops that we did find. They didn't have anything suitable at the time, but it might be worth another look. JD Williams is a new one to me, and so is Elegant Steps. I will have a look see. Thanks for all the great tips ladies :)

Hmmm, Elegant Steps does have a handful of wider shoes which is great. But, what I notice with these shops is that as soon as you go up in width, the heel height goes down. Why is this? It's not like people with wide feet are going to blow over if they wear high heels, right? You'd think they'd be more stable on heels than people with average or narrow feet. I just don't get it.

On the JD Williams site they have some Viva La Diva shoes which look promising though. There's still 9 months to go so I'm still feeling positive we'll find the right shoes eventually. Any more tips are welcome...we're on a mission!!!

Ok, here's an update based on the tips given...my BM moseyed on over to the JD Williams site and found some great shoes, WITH high heels in an EEE fitting for 40 quid. We're not sure if they will be the right ones for the big day as the colour scheme isn't finalized yet, but black & gold goes with a lot of stuff anyway.

The other thing she jumped on were the after party ballerina shoes. They were only 12 quid a pair and came with platinum sequins or black sequins and an E or EEE fitting. Girls, get on over there if you need something like this. Apparently wide ones are really hard to find, and certainly not for this price.

Finally, she surfed a bunch of dance shoes sites and found a ton of shoes in wider fittings that would look great with a BM dress. Now she's spoilt for choice, LOL.

Thanks so much for the tips...you ladies rock!

Another update - the shoes arrived. The after party ballerina shoes are definitely wider than average, but the Viva La Diva high heels in EEE fitting don't even come close :( They are 7.5 cm at the widest point, which is 2.5 cm too narrow!!! What a disappointment. It seems that shoe manufacturers do not realise there is such a big gap in the market for attractive high heeled shoes for ladies with VERY wide feet.

I think someone needs to start a campaign to enlighten the shoe manufacturers that they are missing a big opportunity. Does anybody here also have huge difficulty finding nice shoes because of the width fitting (or know someone else who does)? Does anyone agree that it would be worth the effort to start making a fuss about this and try and build awareness in the industry?

Wow, that's tiny! I can imagine the only shoes she can find in her size are children's shoes. Have you tried looking in specialist child pageant stores? I don't know if those kids wear high heels, but they generally dress much older than their actual age. It wouldn't surprise me if they do special child sized heels.

I just did a quick search on "high heels children" and quite a few promising sites popped up, including Ama zon which had some sequinned shoes with 3cm heels. It might be worth a look.

Priceless has a website which I will post on my wall. They also have another brandname called Petit Feet that you can reach via their main site. They have a couple of hundred pairs of heeled shoes for size 1 feet. This looks hopeful - maybe you can find what you are looking for there.
