I am getting married in July, we booked the wedding a year ago but due to several circumstance changes (new baby, moving house & job change) we don't have the spare funds we did when we first booked the wedding. We are trying to cut down costs and one option we are considering is having a hog roast rather than a sit down meal. Has anyone ever had/been to a wedding without a sit down meal? Did it work well? Were guests disappointed? Thanks in advance.

I think hog roasts are very popular now so if that's what you can afford then go for it, don't stress yourself out trying to provide a sit down meal for everyone, thy should be grateful for anything they get,

I've been to quite a few weddings without a sit down meal.
Dont stress too much!
i would suggest that if you only want to provide one meal (the hog roast) then you time your ceremony later in the day!

It seems to becoming more and more popular now to not have a sit down formal meal and have a hog roast/buffet/afternoon tea/fish and chip van etc. instead. If you're happy with a hog roast and want a hog roast then go for it! Your guests should not just expect a three course sit down meal - they should be thankful and appreciative for whatever you provide for them. xx

I'm not having a sit down meal either Kayleigh. We are having champagne and canapés for when guests arrive then a hot and cold buffet and night time xx
My sister in law2b just had a buffet and it was fine everyone had enough to eat and it went really smoothly. Its starting to get very popular as an alternative to a sit down breakfast
2009 met my boy.

Hog roast sounds like a fab idea. I've been to a wedding that had a BBQ, but they still told people to go up by table, and they didn't have enough food ready for our table, so we had to wait an extra 15mins or so. This is after the bride and groom had finished eating! Guess what I'm saying is if you fancy a BBQ option make sure the timings are right!

Mmmm hog roasts- personally at i wedding I hate having to get up and queue but that's just me as I'm soooo clumsy that I don't want to spill things! Lol

I would do a cartwheel if I was invited to a wedding with a hog roast - LOVE them. And most of the weddings I've been to were buffets rather than a proper "sit-down" anywho.
People do picnics and chip vans and all-sorts now. No one will bat an eyelash :) x

We almost did the same thing. I loved the idea, but we were going to have a later wedding, when things changed so did our plans. Nothing ever works out as you think lol.

My OH's friend had a BBQ at their wedding and it worked really well, just queued up and chose what kinda thing you wanted (burger, sausage or chicken etc.) and the couple had set up a table of sauces, salads and sides to go along with it. Once everyone had finished eating the BBQ guys cleared away everything including plates and things. It was very lovely.
My sister is having a hog roast at her wedding this August and I'm going for an afternoon tea option because our guest list is quite large and there is no way we could afford sit down meals for everyone. Weddings are very personal these days and there is no right or wrong option imo :)
