Yeah you normally have to try on a size or 2 bigger than what you are unfortunately. Sounds like the shop you went too was terrible, better luck next time for when you go dress shopping. x

My experience is that they are much smaller than high street sizes. I'm a 12/14 and could barely even get my leg into a 12, mine was ordered in a 16. Caused a few minor tantrums at the time (:p) but I think that's just the way most of them are made

when i went to a bridal shop they told me that as i was a size 10 in normal sizes, i would need a size 14!!. then they didnt have any 14s in so i had to try on 18s!! which swamped me and i couldnt see how the dress would have looked had it fitted. i didnt go back there. it was terrible

I know when I tried on dresses I struggled firstly to find any my size as I am a large lady and then when I did they didnt fit me as was told I needed to try a size or 2 bigger, so in the end I am getting mine made to my size and taste x

My experience was unpleasant too mostly, they looked down their nose at me when I said I was on a modest budget, I got mine from a factory warehouse (all 75% off stuff its all end of range, cancelled orders etc all brand new stock) they stocked every size you could want, tiaras for like £10 shoes all cheap, flowergirl dresses with £150 tags were selling for £40, you had to just be prepared to have a really good rummage around as all styles and sizes were mixed up together but they were all still in the plastic, well looked after etc. The women were really nice to me even when I explained my budget. All the dresses I liked were costing between £1500 and £2k at the shops I had been to but I got a dress that had a £1800 price tag for £499 and they had a huge fitting room to try stuff on too, honestly cant rave on enough about how lovely they were . plus my dress fits perfectly and needs no alterations.

yea i got mine online for £250, made to measure (no extra charge and it will be ready in 2 months. and the staff have been really helpful. much better than the shops who wanted 8 months notice to make a dress that is mass produced

American sizes are smaller, my last bridesmaid dress was a size 6 (american 6 fair enough but I still felt good about it) My dress was a uk 10 it must depend on the designer, I havent been a size 10 since I was age 10

I went into a shop wearing size 12s. I bought a size 16 wedding dress. Bit disheartening really. But on the other hand the dress made me feel fab and sooooooo slim.

I was surprised. Both shops I went to had dresses in 12s or 14s, and I'm a 16-18. There was, however, only about 2 dresses I was unable to get on. The rest all went on one way or the other. The dress I went for is being made to my measurements, not a size though, which is quite nice in the sense I won't really know what size my wedding dress is!

I've been told that it can be one or even two sizes bigger than what you normally wear. I'm a 12-14 and my dress is acually a 16 but it does need taking in. I have however fitted into a 12 but on the other hand I had one 16 that was too tight. I think it depends on the style of dress and manufacturer, My best tip would be to forget whats in the label it's all about how you feel in it, if you feel fabulous you will look fabulous.

I'm totally confused by them. One of my bridesmaids is a size 12 but one dress she tried on she fit a size 8, another of my bridesmaids is a size 8 but the dress I got her is a size 12 which she is now having a complete hissy over and wanting to lose weight! The whole sizing thing seems to be different in every shop you go in.
My dress is a pathetic size 4.........you may call me Posh from now on ha ha!

I bought my dress in a 14 as that what size i was, foolishly enough without trying it on as was short on time! and wen i got home it was too small. Granted i only had a bit to lose and i wanted to lose weight so kept it as an incentive to lose the weight!x

i felt the same about the dress sizes but my Ann who i bought my dress from told me that they make them small in the industry which she finds odd as a shop owner, but she measures all her brides so that each dress is actually made to measure and not the nearest to what you are to then adjust. hopefully when my dress arrives it will fit perfectly and i can take it home immediately :) the one thing that did suprise me though was the length of the dresses i tried on (all Hilary Morgan)i was in stockinged feet and i wasn't tripping on any of them and i'm only 5"6/7.xx

i wouldn't look for a dress based on its size, i'm a 14 and av tried a few different dresses on and the smallest was a size 6 !! half dressed i poked my head out of the changing room and immediatly whooped to my bms that i fitted a size 6 lol some of the others were a size 12 though, just try dresses on as they sit differently on ur hips n body depending on style hun xx
